Sway control

Any thoughts on which WD hitch and sway control would be best for my set up? My TV is a 2010 F150, 5.4 with 3.55 screw, GVW 7200, 9700 tow capacity. TT is a 2013 Rockwood 8311SS, load should be about 8000-8500, tw should be about 800-900. I know i'm real close on GVW, might have to leave the dogs at home The hitch work is part of the deal we made with the dealer, want to make sure we get what we need instead of cheap stuff.

I would go with a equi-l-izer 4 point sway control hitch. And get the 1200/12000 set up should work great for you.

You'll have to decide between friction sway damping (cheap) and sway eliminating (not cheap).

Implying the E4 is somehow cheaply made is a low blow even for you Sean.

You shouldn't read into it so much. That's on your mind, not mine.

I was strictly referring to PRICE.

Implying that all I do is deliver low blows "even for me" is amazing. I wonder how a lot of people ever learn anything new. I really do. So locked into what you think is the way things are that you read everything with colored glasses. Keep on, keepin' on.

Then perhaps you could have said reasonably priced vs over priced and made it clear to everyone.

Sean.. What do you recommend? I still have not picked up my TT and still deciding on hitch. A lot of people like the e4. What do you like?

Perhaps I could have but I had just read the word CHEAP from the OP. I'm just not that sensitive to the word I guess.

I can't really recommend anything. And, I can't really give you the facts about how the different designs work so that you can make an educated decision. If I do that I will get a lot of people jumping on me that believe stating facts about how something works is somehow "selling" a product. Wish I could but there are people with agendas that prefer others do not get the facts.

I like my inexpensive (not cheap ) equalizer e-2 wdh with integrated sway control. The E-4 is a step up. For those that have the money and/or desire the best for safety prefer propride 3p or hensley arrow. A quick google will show the various styles and goods/bads of each.

Sean, I wish you and your company no ill will. I also have nothing against the higher priced sway eliminating Pro Pride and Hensley hitches. People that use them rave about them, similar to those that use the lower priced sway mitigating E4, Blue Ox and Reese dual cam hitches. Competition and multiple options are a good thing.

Equal-i-zerŪ Hitch - The “American Original” with 4-Point Sway Control™ and Weight Distribution

That would be my suggestion. I had it on my last unit and liked it very much.

Fastway Trailer Products - Home

My current Hitch is an e2. It is fine but not as good as the Equal-i-zer.

Just a suggestion......if you do not feel you have the ability to respond here maybe you could do so in a private message. I personally would be quite frustrated if I were to ask for an opinion (or facts) in an attempt to make an informed decision only to be told that I cannot have said opinion (or facts) for reasons you indicated. I am new to this forum and maybe I am overstepping my bounds but I am perusing the various discussions in an attempt to learn and will likely pose questions in the future. If we cannot work together to help one another, even if it's construed as promoting a product, then I guess I do not see the point in having the discussion in the first place.

IMHO

He is keeping quiet because, in the past, when sharing his opinion/knowledge he has been called out for pushing a product he sells. But yes, that is s great place to utilize a private message.

jsssb31, well put. Thanks. I realize that everyone has an opinion, and some are much more likely to express them. But then again, i did ask. I'm no closer to making a decision on a hitch and still open to suggestion.
Thanks all.

Love my Equalizer 4 point system. Does the job great, hooks up easily, and prevents sway. I have also used a traditional wd system with a sway bar and bars with chains for the weights distribution. The EQ is much better in comparison to that. If money was no option I would go with the Hensley but since it is the EQ was the way to go.

I have to say my favorite would be either the ProPride or the Hensley. I have used the Pro Pride and would never tow another TT without one. It was night and day over any other hitch I have ever used.

I can give you this much info. We have a 2010 F-150 with the 4.6-L engine. It was what was put into the Mustang. I opted for the 4.6-L VS the 5.0 because of fuel when we were not pulling. Our first TT was a 29' North Trail. It was about 7,000# loaded and had standard leaf spring suspension. Our hitch was the 4-point Equalizer with 10,000 bars. We traveled twice to FL with the NT and I added shocks for the second trip. It traveled better with the shocks. We probably drove 8-10-K miles before trading for the Flagstaff. The Flagstaff (29' / 7.000#) has the Tor-Flex independent suspension by Dexter and I have not had time to install shocks. On this past Monday we departed for our 1,000 mile trip to FL. We left on Monday to avoid the bad weather lol. We traveled through some of the worst winds, cross winds and a lot of gusts, rain, lightening etc, etc that I've traveled through in some time and I've never done it while pulling a TT. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the Flagstaff traveled. I never felt insecure or scared that i was going to loose it. Some of that traveling was on limited access and 2-lane roads. The TT was very steady. Since I've had both experiences I can compare two different suspension systems and I applaud the Tor-Flex independent axles, even without shocks. When you hit a bump with solid axles it rises and affects the tracking of the opposite wheel. This compounds the suspension issues. Shocks help to dampen the effect but it is still an issue that will effect handling. When we return from our trip I will add shocks and I'm looking forward to the results when it is done and we take our next trip. A good WD hitch is essential and so it sway control but I believe suspension and shocks play a more significant role in the TT handling. Sway control is important but if your suspension reduces the effects of the outside forces that contribute to trailer sway there is less that needs controlled. If your current rig has standard leaf springs then I would without a doubt add shocks ASAP.

Campers, I hope you had the "hitch work" defined with the dealer. The price difference between different wd hitches can be significant. We are talking $700 to $2300 and more. I doubt the dealer will shell out over $2000 for a hitch so be ready.

I have decided to go with the equalizer e4 hitch. If it does not work well enough then I can sell it and look at the more expensive units.
