Sway Control bar issue

We bought our TT used. It came with a WDH & sway control bars. One of the bars ( the one that appears to be two tone in the pic ) makes the most awful grinding & sometimes loud popping sound when turning. I've backed off on the tightening to the point there is almost no friction/pressure on the bar. That gets the noise to stop. But then, whats the point? Am I getting any sway control from it? There is a warning on the bar that says to never apply any lube ( makes sense ). But I'm tempted to try some type of lube & beef up the pressure to see what happens. Before I do that, has anybody experienced this? If so, how did you fix it? There must be something different that has occurred with these bars to have them looking so different.

It's friction. It makes noise. Backing off the pressure or adding lubricant defeats the purpose.

The noise is not a problem.

The noise is not a problem as far as performance. But it's annoying.
You don't want to lubricate anything, but it is OK to take a wire brush or hi-grit sanding block to it, to knock off any corrosion or other debris. If it feels seriously out-of-flat, you should probably replace it.

My dad just picked this one up from Harbor Freight. 32 bucks!!
