What method do you apply when your trailer starts to sway? I use to accelerate to get rid of the sway then slow down a bit, that's why I never drove as fast as I could have done, I still needed a little room to go faster if needed.
But that was years ago before I started to use the Heansley now I don't have sway at all.
Although I still find myself driving at around 60 to 70 on highways.

It depends on what is causing the sway. Big Rigs will suck you toward the at first the release as they pass or if they are in front of you the air turbulence will beat you around some. For big rigs I watch my mirrors all the time an as they approach I will accelerate and turn slightly away from the pull until they pass. Cross winds are dependent on the area around you. I like two lane roads lined with trees over open four lanes on windy days but if you have no choice, crib it back into the wind a little and drive, watch your mirrors and always leave yourself an out if needed. I have been a paramedic for 35 years years and operated ambulances and fire apparatus in some very bad situations but, knock on wood I've never had an accident. I always watch those around me and leave myself an out.

If the trailer starts to sway, you should apply the trailer brakes only with the manual slide on the brake controller to bring the trailer back in line.

I have used the quick acceleration trick on small trailers, but that simply would not work on a larger trailer of the size we are discussing.

whats crazy about that is where most people and manufactures place the controller to do that. try to apply the manual braking system at approx. 20 mph somewhere in a parking lot. you will be surprised a how quickly those brakes can stop you and even lock up the wheels. With only one hand on the wheel its something all of us need to practice...

Once you set up the controller, squeezing the paddles will apply the same brake pressure on the camper's brakes as applying the trucks brakes; without braking the truck at all.

This will stop camper sway. What it won't do is turn on the brake lights so get off as soon as the camper settles down. You don't want to get rear ended.

I been reading the posts after work today. So we live with the sway with most setups . It doesn't seem to many our fairing much better. high wind with passing trucks at the same time. Makes 70 miles per hour to fast for safty. Plus cheap tires they put on these new trailer. Make me thankful to find this site. Planning to upgrade tires and tow hitch before next to Colorado in the spring. Thanks for the help

I don't think that putting new tires on the trailer will help much with sway. New tires with stiffer sidewalls may help the Liberty some, but be careful that you don't get tires with too high of a rating that you have to exceed the maxiumum PSI ratings of your wheels.

I currently run C rated passenger tires on my truck, and when the time comes for replacement, I plan on going to a D rated LT tire.

I'm running a Lt tires on the truck . I believe the Hensley Cub Anti-Sway Trailer Hitch will help with the sway. And upgrade the trailer tires for peace of mind. Running at 65 is the max for the tire. That not ok

Well bought the Hensley hitch today. They are running a sale for the first 100 people this year. Get 300 dollars off the hitch. 99 dollars for shipping. 60 day money back. Won't start the time till April. Will have to try it and see.

Got my hitch today what a piece of work. Hope it tows as good as it looks. All I need to do is get some better tires and a back camera. I believe this will help out with the sway. My old setup wasn't bad when the wind wasn't blowing 20 miles per hour. I have noticed not many people have the safer hitch. The few people that do seem to be happy. I give it a try and let everyone now how it works out.

I used the Equalizer hitch with 12K bars when I towed a travel trailer.

It had 4 way sway control built in.

Hoping I picked the right one this time herk7769. I would like to thank everyone for the input on the hitches. I fights a short wheel base Jeep. My old setup wasn't that bad. But when the side wind was 20 + and big trucks would pass at the same time. It would max out the whole rig. If this hitch don't work will have upgrade the Jeep. Anyone have picks of your hitch would like to see. Thanks again Herk7769 for all the help.
