Swift Hitch Wireless Camera

Last year I bought the Swift Hitch portable wireless camera to assist with hooking up to our TT. It works great until I use it for what I actually bought it for.

As I start to backup it has a good picture up until I get about 2 to 3 feet away from the TT coupler. Then there is a bunch of interference on the screen to the point I can't see anything.

The truck is equipped with rear parking assist sensors which I shut off from inside the cab of the truck. I'm starting to wonder if it's still active, but just shuts down the audible and visual indicators.

Our tow vehicle is a 2010 Ram 1500 Laramie. It's been suggested to try it on one of our other vehicles and see if it does as well. Which I haven't done yet.

Just curious if anyone else has run into this before?

Hmmm, it almost makes you wonder if the closer you get to your trailer, if you may be getting some kind of signal deflection off the trailer itself.

I would try it on some other vehicles, as well as just backing towards a wall or something large to see if it does the same thing.

I think I remember reading somewhere that bluetooth devices could also interfere with the signal on these units too, when I was researching different camera options, as in this forum topic:

Made a wireless backup camera system cheaply

I never thought about backing the truck agains something else. I'll have to give that a try as well.

Yes I had read about possible Bluetooth interference as well, so made sure as best as I know it is shut off on the truck's radio and my phone.

In my previous post, I added a link where we discussed camera systems. I think there were several members in that forum who said they had the swift hitch, if you want to PM them for advice.

They may can help figure it out.

Phil,

Sent you a reply..For others,

I use my swift hitch all the time and really like it. I have very little interference with my Ford which also has the backup warning system.

I have a Hensley Hitch and hooking up would be very difficult without the camera. With the camera it is very easy.

The only time I had bad interference was when the guy next to me was running a leaf blower to clean off his campsite.

I have heard the swift hitch referred to as the marriage saver and I would agree!
