I hope this all turns out well for you also.

This is a well know problem with the 2011 year 6.7L trucks but it's also the reason why I will never own a modern diesel without an extended warranty policy. To get this truck fixed, it's going to cost a few bucks. Some people can write the big check with no complaints so they never purchase an extended warranty. I would be beside myself if I had to write the big check, so I carry a policy and always will. On my current 6.7L with 65,000 miles on it, I've had a $1,600 radiator replaced under the ESP plan and I paid around $2,800 for 8 years and 125,000 miles. Like all insurance, I hope to never need it but it helps me out should I have an issue with very expensive parts going bad.

Good luck with getting the beast fixed or traded.

Well, I am now in debt for...forever. I can't figure out whether I'm happy (it's a beautiful truck), sad (I was not ready yet), or somewhere in between. But whatever, here is the new beast. And it is a beast.

2019 XLT, XLT premium package, 8" screen with nav, and a few other goodies. Beautiful, but damn...so much for any hope of an early retirement!

You will LOVE that truck. It is much more powerful than the 2011. I have a noticeable improvement in my 2018 from my 2012. I got the 2018 on June 26 and it already has 10,300 miles. I could not be happier with the towing capabilities of this truck.

Thanks. I just hope they have all the issues fixed. I think 8 years is enough time to do that. It certainly feels stronger, quieter, and smoother. I have a ways to go before towing, but I can't wait.

The weekend started good...

My 2012 6.7 diesel was killed by a glow plug breaking off into the cylinder head. I had no option but to buy a new truck, hence the 2018. The 2018 had 100 miles on it when we hooked up the fifth wheel and took off. It now has more than 10,000 miles and no issues.
Good luck going forward.

I think you'll fare better with the newer 6.7L engine. This engine has gone thru many incremental improvements to improve longevity and power. I think Ford is doing their best to resolve issues as they become known.

From what I recall, DPF regeneration using post injection on only one bank of cylinders is why some folks had problems with exhaust valves on the early model 6.7Ls and may have contributed to short lifespan of glow plugs.

Fact is modern emission systems are great for environment but bad for engine reliability.

Just a thought.....how much emissions would be increased by lowering the requirements of newer diesels, versus the environmental impact a replacement engine, emission control, etc create? This would include all the factors of refining the ore, smelting, casting, energy required, transportation....etc?

It is a fact that the new emissions required have messed up the reliability, MPG and performance of the newer diesels.

Would be interesting to see actual data, but using the sniff test, I vote to keep the emissions. It's shocking how nicer our air is compared to when travelling around to countries where there are virtually no emissions.

I Second that. People that pull emissions equipment, roll coal and abuse the environment are short sited. Global Warming is real! They launched a rocket this past week with a satellite and test sensors to monitor polar ice cap melting.

I think it's pretty safe to say that launching that rocket has more effect on atmospheric pollution than my emissions deleted truck.

https://www.scientificamerican.com/a...ed-by-rockets/

Why do you think anyone would delete them? Ill give you a hint.. It's not because we want to do as much damage to the environment as possible.

I see where they switched to low sulphur diesel and any new vehicle sold is now required to meet 2007 US/EU Requirements. I don't see anything about how they outlawed older Diesel vehicles or required all Diesel trucks to meet updated Diesel requirements.

I am all for the environment. My point is, what are the minimal gains, Vss the proven additional costs and problems? We have mandatory emission testing here. My 2001 passes the sniff tests with flying colors! Has no emission stuff, except the PCV valve. Passes the 2018 particulate tests with no filter or egr. No, it does not roll coal like some of the iddyitts do misusing tuners. No, I do not get tested for NOX, so i do not know were it is there.

Just trying to say, where is the trade off in emissions versus all the problems they have added. DEF helps, but the road taken with that, causes a lot of pollution just producing/refining it. Include the packaging and transportation as well. Add in all the repair costs, replacement parts and pollution caused by the regen, egr, etc, add in the aggravation..... what is the trade off to save a bit here, but make more there...

Yes, some of the emissions help, but....where is the break-even...or tipping point!

So sad. Hate it for you. Hopefully it can be fixed up like new. Sounds like my first trip in my new class c. Drive great, easy set up in camping spot. Then lost power. RV 30 amp inlet shorted out and fried the wires. Then fridge would not light on propane. So I had to use the onboard generator for a hole day until I could find a new inlet and install it. Pain in the derriere. But all is well now. Hopefully you too will be back at it in full swing soon.
