The weekend started good...

But went downhill in a hurry. We got to the campground, all was well. We did some antiquing, putzed around, found a nice little hole in the wall cafe, and day 2 was supposed to be more of the same. But as I was driving the truck over a hill, the diesel started dieseling loud. Then louder. When I stepped on the gas, it was even louder. So I got to a place where I could pull over (right in the middle of someone's country driveway), as I slowed and finally stopped, the truck was shaking like a magnitude 10 earthquake. I shut it down and that was that. It gave no warning, no lights, no bells, no whistles. Just the increasingly louder dieseling and the shuddering, then dead. It is now at the dealer, waiting for them to open and spring the bad news on me. Crap! CRAP!!

Sorry man. Hope it's nothing too serious. Let us know what you find. Warranty yet?

I'm no diesel mechanic, but I read somewhere that there is a rubber elbow or connection on the turbo piping that has a tendency to split and will result in the symptoms you describe. A simple fix with a (relatively) inexpensive part.

Hoping for an easy solution to your problem!

They posted the backstory, in the Things you see in a RV park thread. Apparently the driver blacked out while backing up.

Exact same thing happened to us. We had a 2011 F250 exactly like yours. When the mechanic took the oil pan off it was full and running over with metal shavings! Needless to say we had to spring for a new motor. Luckily we have a very good diesel mechanic with years of experience. We replaced the motor with a used one, a 2013, cost us 12K, then traded the truck the next month. We have always had Fords, but never again. Bought a Ram 3500. Hope you have an extended warranty that will cover it.

Not that this is funny....

But that's the story I would use if I did that. Used to say accelerator hung...they are just wires now.

Wish it was not true but sadly driver has issues with heart and vertigo - compounded with excessive heat conditions all weekend

Glad it was not on the highway or while driving thru campground - could have been a very tragic outcome for us and the family

Might be time to consider giving up driving.

Sadly agree ....but easy to tell someone else and not yourself

We would probably all balk at that when the day comes - I know I will ☹️

To answer a couple of questions/comments...I am within 100K, but well beyond the 5 years. My extended warranty ended last November. So whatever the diagnosis, I will be on my own.

My dad quit driving when he was in his 80's after he rear ended a police car. Luckily he lived in a small town where everybody knew everybody.
