This can not be a good towing setup...

Saw this at 0200 on my way in to work yesterday. Wind was up around 20 with gust to 30, this was in the parking lot of a QT gas station, tongue jack was down. I imagine looking for a respite from the wind as this had to be all over the road.
Looked to be about 28', poor little Jeep did not stand a chance...

Some people never seem to learn that just because you CAN does not mean you SHOULD!

Probably traveling with the tongue jack down to cut down sway.

Why would he be white-knuckling it if he's parked? Give the man some credit. At least he was smart enough not to be on the highway.

you laugh now but if that jack came with a swivel wheel he prob did!!!

i have seen set ups like this sooooo many times but the worst to date was a ford escape with no load leveler hitch pulling an older dayton 19' tt and that escape couldn't get over 45 mph and was about ready to pop a wheelie!! i passed them like they were standing still

He might have been using it as his WDH. Put one of those wheeled Jack's like the pop ups have and you can take a load off your hitch.

He'd have been better off putting some wheels on his stabilizers and putting those down! LANDING GEAR!

But look at his nose high Jeep, and it sure looks like it would be a tail wagging the dog situation...

May have his torsion bars unhooked. Can't tell from the picture.

Looks like he might be snoozing. OP said its 0200. Looks like its pretty level with the building in the background.

Looks like he got there fine, catching some zzz's. Is it ideal? I'd imagine not. I looked, the TV has a 5,000lb towing capacity and I'd put that trailer at around that dry.

We don't know the details, but it looks as if he's getting it done.

This is mine, it is a 29ft surveyor 264SV being towed by a 2013 VW Touareg TDI with wheel base of 114 inches. Tows beautifully handles great and I don't need to stop for winds, just because it looks different does not mean it is wrong or does not conform.

DDC - interesting...I just looked at the Towing Guide and the Touraq is listed at 7,716 lbs. Never would have thought! How's the mpg towing?

We are in Indiana at the Tadpole rally and drove down from Ontario pushing against south westerly winds and averaging 16.4 mpg with the cruise set at 65 most of the way.

So DDC what is the hitch rated for?. when I looked at some in the dealers lot, waiting to get my EOS serviced, the hitch was rated for less than 10% tongue weight. Around 650 lbs I think.
