Don't laugh - I considered on of the Cowtown Sleepers in order to take my in-laws comfortably after MIL complained about the bugs when she was strapped to the roof.
No seriously- I like this 3-row idea. It has uses and reasons for existing...

Now wait just one minute. Have you compared the pin/hitch weight with the Cargo Carrying Capacity of that truck? That beautiful thing has so many accoutrements that it probably has very low CCC! ;-) ;-) ;-)

If ford brought back the diesel excursion or GM started putting a duramax in the 2500 'burb, I feel nothing like this would exist.

Besides the fact that he probably can't even handle much more than the payload of groceries because of the weight of all that fancy bling, I can imagine how hard it would be to drive around town and to park it. I have a tough enough time with a just supercab and long box. It almost looks like it belongs in a episode of Celebrity Motorhomes.

That truck still has enough GVWR left to carry your truck in the bed and still full your RV with the seats full of kids.

As a former Excursion owner; I would love to see them develop a new Excursion, but expect the reasons they do not are the reasons they stopped selling to begin with.
The Excursion was somewhat hampered by what it was and where it fit in the Ford R&D cycle. In order to get a more passenger compliant ride they sacrificed payload and towing. Chevy 2500 Burbs are similar in that they do not have the payload or towing capacity of straight 3/4 ton trucks, but they do ride nicely.
In order to make an Ex or a Burb tow like a 3/4 ton truck, you have to change the suspension and then the ride quality suffers. Plus the shorter wheelbase (kind of funny to say when you see how big they are, but my Ex WB was 20 inches less than CC 3/4) means they just tow as well.
And add to that my 03 retailed at 53K new. No kidding. Adjusted for current prices that would be in the 80+ range.

All very good points, however the rear suspension on the 2500 GMC's is still a leaf spring design like the trucks. The 1500 series yukons and 'burbs uses a coil spring, panhard bar and control arms.
But additional payload wouldn't (IMO) be the main benefit of fitting a diesel in the 3/4 Ton SUV's, it's the gas mileage and durability benefit of heavier duty components (Duramax/allison, or the new 6.7 Ford Diesel) that I would be looking for.
I've spent a great deal of time on the idea of trading in my Yukon for a 2002 Excursion with the 7.3 and investing a little money in Airbags/heavier duty front suspension springs.
I have 4 boys, + DW, so a Crew cab truck (even with a front bench seat) isn't going to cut it for the longer trips. I already tried to justify an F-250 CC to the wife and she wasn't having the argument.

Reminds me my neighbour and his Tundra ! he always tells me that his Tundra will tow my truck and my trailer so easily he will not even feel it I politely smile and agree

The MPG is a nice benefit when you are in something that big, and some with the smaller gas engines can barely get out of their own way.
Be prepared to buy a work in progress or shell out some serious coin for a 7.3 Ex. They appreciate in value. But you can do a lot with them for sure. I was this close to dropping an entire 08 drivetrain and suspension under mine when the DW caught me, hence I have a different truck now...
