Depends on how well it was taken care of if it is a diesel. I wouldn't go with a high mileage gas truck. I have an 2001 diesel with low mileage of 105k and don't plan on getting rid of it until it gives me a really good reason. I am the original owner and do all the maintenance myself. With the outrageous price of new diesel trucks it is difficult to justify trading up if your existing truck is in good shape. I would rather keep that money invested and earning me money instead of throwing it into a depreciating asset.

Thoughts on high mileage 2500 style tow rigs

It would depend on the price of the truck for me. I would not have a problem with getting a 2500 with 150,000 miles on it. (Gasser), if the price was good. If I could make a deal that gave me the truck for $4,000 below book value I would snatch it up if body, Frame, and everything else was good and it looked garage kept. The saving would allow me to put in a new engine and tranny if I needed.

I bought a 2011 Ram 2500 with 100,000 miles on it two years ago, it was a Sunoco oil company truck. Saved a bunch on the price over anything else out there. After adding items that I wanted, it has been going strong. I have been fortunate that I know enough about cars and look them over in detail to not have gotten a bad one over the years.

Until I retire I put on less than 10,000 miles per year on my truck. Lowes is only 1 mile down the road. Just went 1600 mile trip last week.

Good luck in your decision.
