Tires for my truck

Ok I know there are a lot of opinions out there. But I have p tires on now. I have 14 gmc Sierra 1500. Was thinking of a lt type tire. To use during camping season anyone have suggestions

Not sure what size/weight your trailer is, but LT's are the way to go. And since I drive in a lot of snow, went with the new version of the BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2's. This new version is supposed to have better wear life on pavement than the old ones. Had those on there before and really liked them, but only got about 35,000 miles out them. Otherwise, a great tire.

You will get a benefit when towing with LT tires. Less squirm and bounce.

You will also get a ride harshness penalty; all of the time.

I think it is a trade-off based on how much you tow, if you are having issues when towing, your tolerance for transmitted harshness.

If you DO go for LTs, don't let anyone talk you into Load Range "E" tires. "C" tires are plenty and will be less harsh. IMO, E's are overkill on a 1/2 ton.

Best tread wear in the business as far as I'm concerned.
Ive driven well over 25k a year every year for the last 14 years.
I've tried others but firestone transforce tires are the ones I get the best mileage out of.

Have to disagree, have had C & D and finally went to E's. They are harsher riding unless you deflate them to 30#R-35#F when unloaded. Wear is much better than the C or D. Truck sway is completely gone which is not the case with either the C or D.

Until we know the size of tire it's hard to say which way to go. 17" tire lots of LT tires, 18" less selection and 20" almost no selection of LT rated.

X2. Didn't notice any significant change in ride quality with the higher LR tire when running at the original recommended pressure. And, when towing, got a much better ride quality by increasing pressure.

Trade-off is you really need to lower the pressure back down when not towing to avoid excessive wear in the center of the tire from over-inflation.

I just put Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revos on my 2012 1 ton Ford. They are 20 in. Load range E. A bit high priced but my brother has worked for Firestone and has seen them run 60000 to 70000 miles on a 1 ton.

Michelin LTX A/T or M&S, Bridgeston Dueler Revos, and Bridgestone Transforce are all excellent LT tires. Never had anything less than 80K on Michelin LTX, and they had tread left, just the compound got too hard and started to exhibit sidewall cracking. On my 98 K1500 Z71, never was there a more capable tire that the original LTX A/T on it - 265/75R16 on 16x8 aftermarket wheels! Regardless of any subjective arguments here from seat of the pants feel, the construction of an LT tire is one that is stiffer than a P-rated tire by design. You will notice a difference - period. However, you bought a TRUCK and not luxury sedan!

My 2013 2500 came with Firestone Transforce. Tread wear is even across but I currently have 19,000 miles on them and will be lucky to get 25,000. Lincoln's head is almost entirely visible. Will probably go to Coopers as I have heard good reports from them.

I dont know much about brands an such but I am learning fast from others. My dad said treat your tires better than your wife and they will save your life. I am sure hw meant the trailer as well as the truck.

I've had great luck with Transforces in the past. Currently have GY Wranglers AT Kevlars and after about 12000 miles they are looking pretty good!

I run the 10 ply Cooper AT3. About 30k on them and still going. I'm sure I'll get 55-60k on them. Great in mud & snow, but not super sticky on the asphalt. I had to cut my cornering speeds by 25%

I had a set of Michelin LTX M/S 2 18" on my 2012 1500 chevy crew cab. Great tire. I went with the load E range. When I was not towing I would air down to about 38 lbs and the ride was better than the factory Bridgestone Duellers. I usually ran about 65 lbs towing and never set off the tpms. I 1st put a set of the BF Goodrich TKO's, but swapped them out for the Michelin's the next day due to road noise. If you don't want to sacrifice the ride, Michelin is the way to go for the extra $$.

I too had a set of michelin ltx m/s tires. Wore down to 3/32 and 4/32 in less than 30000 miles. Tire pressure checked weekly, tires rotated every 6 months along with alignment check at that time and performed if needed. To say I was po'd would be an understatement. Tire dealer claimed neglect until I plopped maintainance records onto his counter. He changed his tune quickly when he saw he didn't have a leg to stand on.

I am going back with them on the off chance I got a bad set. They are supposed to be 70000 mile tires. I got 29xxx out of them. I live in illinois, so no corners to carve. All roads lead to "T" corners or intersections. I have an old hot rod when I get the urge to turn tires into smoke. I drive and baby my truck like the proverbial old man.

They ride well, excellent traction in the wet/snow. My only bitch is the wear/mileage I got out of them. Will review again in 2 years if they wear like this again or if I remember... lol.
