Tires for tow vehicle - LT or P ?
Dear All,
Am about to put new tires on my 09 Tahoe to pull my Rockwood Roo 21SS (~5000 lbs, using a Blue Ox SwayPro) and am trying to decide whether LT tires would be useful for me or over the top. Also thinking All Terrain as I've had some interesting times with the truck on sand and snow. Things have been OK with the P rated OEM Wrangler HP's but I'm pretty new to this and don't have any other reference point. Any advice greatly appreciated.

I personally would not tow any trailer of any size on P tires. Don't like the soft, spongy sidewalls that aggravate sway and in my case did not wear very good. IMO, P tires go on cars, not a tow vehicle.

I would not run P tires on a rig that was going to tow anything.

I upgraded to LT - big improvement and peace of mind.

I've got P rated Goodyear wranglers and the only I pull I've done so far is from the dealer to home. The truck is brand new and the tires only got about 1600 miles on them right now so I'm sort of stuck with them for awhile. I'll be looking into LT tires when the time comes to swap them out.

Tried GY Fortera's and only got about 30,000 miles out of them. GY Wrangler LT245/70R17 SRA LRE OWL are on it now and work much better.
