So Your chevy didn't like going to the grocery store ? being as the chevy 2500 is one of the best riding trucks out there i find it hard to believe . if your TT is set up the same and your level when towing then the tongue jack would be the same height off the ground no matter the truck . as far as coil springs in the rear VS leaf ,the leafs will win every time . you must have had issues with your truck

I will say that the people I have know with gas turbos have all had problems and they were not towing. They cringed when they got the repair bills. If you are towing, the turbo is going to be working much harder than street driving.

Below are some reviews and comparisons that may interest you. You can also google "Ford Ecoboost reviews" for more information. By the reviews, the V8 may be the safest strategy.

I have a 2011 Eco boost and have been pulling a 9800 lb 5th wheel over 30,000 km over the past 5 years all over the Eastern US between Miami FL and Sudbury Ontario with no problems. I ordered the max tow package and then upgraded the tires to 10 ply and added air bags on the back for stiffer towing. I never had a lack of towing power. The gas mileage was a little higher than similar F 250 trucks with Diesel engines. But I don't tow every day so I did not think that the cost difference between a gas was worth it. I am very happy with my ecoboost. No problems, just normal maintenance

A dully to an F150 can not be compared. They are built for different purposes. I towed a 11,000 FW with my 7,900 F-250 without issue. The F-250 was spected with max towing in mind.

Wow must be a regular cab short box. My SCrew weighed in at 5820. That includes some extras like running boards and box liner tonneau cover and half a tank of gas.

Seven pages of positive reviews by EB owners, and the only negative comments are by those who do not own or operate them, but have "heard" negative things from their "friends" or " once knew a guy" who had issues, .......very interesting!

Hey

Man I love these truck threads. I have owned 4 chevy's, 2005 Avalanche w a 5.3, this one couldn't tow a 4500 lb trailer well. 2007 Suburban 2500 w 6.0 liter. Great truck towed ok but engine screamed going up hills very competent though, 2010 2008 Dodge Mega Cab ctd, best truck I ever owned should never have sold it, 2010 Silverado double cab truck for work w 4.8 liter v8. Nice motor couldn't tow crap, and now a 2016 dodge Eco diesel. Amazing truck, rides like a caddy quiet and remember it makes max torque at 2000 rpm. No screeming up hills. Getting 25.5 mpg average right now. My buddy has one and pulls a 12000 lb trailer to Indy once per week w no problems. That's overloaded it's rated for 8950 lbs but only 1250lbs cargo.

I've driven the new ford several times. Nice truck for sure. Probably best work truck out there. Dodge is like a cross between the ford and Chevy. Although this one feels like a caddy.

Good luck I think for that trailer any of the manufacturers make a truck that will work fine.

Chevy vs Dodge vs Ford comparison always interesting. Here's some comparison test for towing capability:

The 2.7L EcoBoost beat the Dodge Eco diesel:

We're looking to replace our 2005 Ford F-150 with the 5.4L Triton V-8. We almost bought 2015 but heard the 2016 would have a better aluminum (i.e. Alcoa Micromill). Now 2016 is here and we hear the 2017 will get the new 10-speed transmission (jointly developed with GM) and a new even more powerful 3.5 EcoBoost.

Here's what I have, and the real numbers I get with the truck and towing. First long trip last fall to Yellowstone from Tampa Bay about 7500 miles.

2015 F150 XL, 2.7 EB, 2WD 3:31 axle, Super cab, Ford tow rating 7600lbs, Factory Tow package, 36g tank, Factory brake controller, Rear View Camera, Electric Axle Lock (I was lucky the dealer ordered the truck with these options), really recommend the larger tank if you can order it. I can travel when towing a good 300 plus miles a day on a tank of gas.

2015 FR Micro Lite 21DS dry wt 3900lbs Gross 4900lbs,

Andersen WD-Anti Sway hitch

Mileage just driving the truck empty always is 21-22mpg in town, highway with cruise control at 60mph have seen a little over 30mpg twice, normally very easy to get 25-28 on Hwy 75 at 65mph most trips to FT Myers etc.

Towing the 21DS out to Yellowstone the trip meter for the complete round trip was 11.3 mpg average. The mileage range is 9 to 12 mpg and if I had to pick an average from my spot check on short and longer trips I would say 10.5 to 11 mpg towing the 21DS.

The engine has plenty power at all times I could easily pass slower (coaches) etc. on the uphill grades out west towing the 21DS. On ramp acceleration to highway traffic is never a problem always feel I have enough power and speed.

Engine rpm towing at about 60mph is 1800 rpm in fifth gear will occasionally drop to 4th. I also monitor the transmission temp and only one time did it go a little over 215f for short time when going over the top of Yellowstone and then went down quickly, usually its in the 190's.

The truck with the 2.7 EB has exceeded my expectations as a daily driver and for towing my ML 21DS, hope my info helps a little bit. I call my 2.7 the little beast.

Yes I've watched that video. They let the truck decide the gear selection and the Eco diesel is tuned to max the torque and just tow. Not for speed.

I wonder if they would have manually selected the gearing if it would have been quicker.

Ford no doubt makes a great product but today when I was running 80 down I 71 and couldn't hardly hear the motor watching the file gauge at 29+ mpg I felt amazingly satisfied and I know it may not tow the quickest but it will get the job done. I recommend everyone drive one.

The difference between a Ecco Boost and V8 are real with the Ecoo Boost coming out on top on most of the specs. Ford is redoing the 2017 Super Duties even using some F150 body panels but maybe Ford knows something that we don't in not putting Ecco Boost into the Super Duty lineup. Super Duties will have three engines - the gas 6.2, 6.8 and 6.7 diesel for 2017. So why do you think there is no Ecco Boost in the Super Duties?

We had a 9800 lb 5'er that we towed with our 2012 F-150 EB Crew Cab with the Max Tow AND the HD Package. I special ordered it.

We LOVED it, but I decided this past summer that I wanted to look at a larger 5'er, so we upgraded to an F250 6.7 L diesel.

I would purchase it again and I really do miss it. The ride was as good as our Cadillac was. The F250 does not have as good a ride.
