Tongue weight ?

I found this site and it helped me in my quest to find out what my tongue weight was.

Use a bathroom scale, 2 pipes and some lumber. Provides a 4-1 ratio.

Before I bought a Sherline, I used that method. Works great.

In my case, I used 2 small wood wedges instead of the pipes....I was afraid those might roll.

Might try this on mine to check the tongue weight, would two 2 x 4 blocks of wood work on this? DW said for me not to break her scales...

I tried that did not even think about using DW scale. Picked on up at Goodwill for $3...It worked but the scale will never be the same... I would love to have a Sherline..

Ideally, you should have 2x4s with notches cut out for the pipe both on the ground, and on the scales.....this would prevent the pipes from rolling, in addition the scale 2x4 on the scale would better distribute the weight, so that you would not "crease" the scales.

That looks good. At over 1000 lbs TW I needed a 5:1 ratio

I was wondeing why my 13,000 lb trailer only had 10 pounds of TW....You gotta look close, they are not touching the ground...

Interesting concept. Never would've thought about doing this. Wonder what type of contraption and ratio I'd have to use for a 14k lb 5th wheel?
