Thanks for the responses guys. That was very helpful. I learn something new everyday. I will go out and buy a Torque wrench ASAP. Any suggestion on brand?

Good torque wrenches are pricey, a good "Snap On" 1/2" drive 30 lb/ft -250 lb/ft will probably be in the range of $150-$250.

That's a loaded question... Ford or Chevy?
You get what you pay for, to a certain point. I used to swear by Craftsman, now I seem to be very happy with the Kobalt stuff.
I wouldn't trust the $9 one from HF, but I have one, and it reads the same as my Craftsman...
Some guys are gonna tell you the $350 Snap-On is the only way to go...

Man, that is a great price. I am thinking about jumping on that deal if it is truly Craftsman.....

You might need an account for Graingers.

You can check out as a guest. Just seems too good to be true. A quick google search returns much higher cost. I know Grainger has some good prices but that doesn't seem right...

Sure but a great price if they honor it when stock comes back in.

When I worked at Firestone they had a set of these for every couple techs. I was a little leary of them at first but after double checking them with a torque wrench they actually worked great and saved a huge amount of time.

My bet is you will get the "out of stock;" "Backordered" reply. Then you will get a price change notice a week later with an offer to cancel.

My thought exactly Herk. Thought the price was to good to be true. It was more than likely the last one in stock.

Did you mean Torque wrench and that was a misspelling or were you being humorous?
|
Not only do I really know how to spell it, I can actually use one, too!
I have a few torque wrenches and have paid $350 for one that I used to build engines.
Interesting discovery, though. I was given a $30 torque wrench from Harbor Freight as a gift. I compared it to one of my Snap On's when torquing lug nuts. They were both fairly equal when it came to 85#.
Would I use the $30 one for engine building? Probably not. But for keeping in the fiver and checking wheel lug torque, definately.

@mm29: I still haven't bought one yet. I've seen one at wal mart but don't know if it's good enough.

I 2nd the harbor freight torque wrench at $20, results are equal with my Snap On, yet my craftsman is all over the board....
Craftsman probably 20 years old, may have to make a trip over to Sears for a swap out...
