Is it worth buying a product that can tell you what your tounge weight is?We just bought 2015 shockwave and pull it with 1500 sierra and 2008 Toyota tundra and it looks like there is a lot of discussion for correct tounge weight. We have not pulled this big a rig before but so far unloaded it pulls great.

There are other ways. IMO it isn't worth the cost, but if you want to check it regularly or often then it might be.

My local scale operator lets me just drop the trailer and drive forward to the next section to get the tongue weight.

I just use the local trucker scales (CAT Scale). Run through once with truck and trailer and one with just truck. First weigh will cost you $9-12, each additional weigh in a 24 hrs period will be $1-3. Have front axle on scale pad 1, rear axle on scale pad 2 and all trailer axles on scale pad 3. Then take the two weight tickets to do the math on trailer weight and tongue weight. You can also use a local dump scale or a local feed store scale but you might have to do each axle individually on those. Some states allow you to use the highway DOT scales when they are closed but check first as not all states permit this.

I got a 2000 Lb. scale from etrailer to weigh my trailer tongue. I do it every time I hook up. The weight tends to vary some. I found other uses for the scale so all in all it was worth the expense.
