Tow package

I have a dumb question, currently I am in the market for a TV, I have own a few trucks in my past but none have a tow package involved. Only the last one I owned had a aftermarket add on hitch which was a 06 Silverado.

My question is how can you tell if the truck has a factory tow package versus a aftermarket add on hitch. I am looking at a 2005 Dodge Ram SLT with the 5.7 Hemi. The dealer advertises it as having the factory tow package.

Dave

If you can get the VIN you should be able to lookup the build sheet. Go here for Dodge Dodge - Contact Us

Thanks but as a visual inspection, what do I look for, is the factory tow package has its own sway control integrated into the dash? The link above is for Dodge, are there one for others?

I am looking for a TV in the Kern County area, California, under 16k. Preferences is tow package either Dodge, Chevy or Toyota and under 80k miles. If anyone knows one available, please pm me

the only way visually is to look up the truck you are looking at and see what the tow package consisted of and then look for the extra equipment.
Sorry I can't be of more help.

The ford dealer I buy from pulls a full spec sheet for every vehicle they sell. It shows all options like tow package and such. Google Vin decoder and enter your VIN for all options.

Usually in the glove box there is a sticker listing option codes which the dealer can translate for you. Later RJD

It varies widely. With my Nissan Frontier, tow package meant hitch, wiring, and relays.

With others, it may mean larger radiator, transmission cooler, different mirrors, type of spare tire...

Ford has tow package and max tow package, and the differences are confusing. They seem to be different for different years.

No easy answer unless you read up on the specific make, model, and possibly year for the truck you are looking for.

I find the Trailer Life towing guides to be very useful. They seem to have the right information all the time.

Quick and simple, with a factory tow package usually the electrical plugs will be part of the main harness and not a spliced in affair.

Chevy's will usually have a Tow/Haul switch somewhere (usually on the end of the shift lever).
