I had a 5th wheel that towed with a half ton chevy. It had big v-8 and camper towing package on it. Believe me still not fun! We sold the camper. I recently bought a06 f350 diesel crew cab used for $5k. Then bought a trailer. I enjoy being comfortable while towing. I am less than half the tow weight of the vehicle and still get 16 mpg!

Started pulling my Salem TBUD with an 05 F150 5.4L CC 4x4 Lariat.
The TBUD was dry ~5800 and wet ~7600. The truck could pull it but liked to complain on any small hill and boy could you feel it back there.

After a few short trips the wife OK'ed the 2010 F250 4x4 CC 6.4 Diesel and now she forgets I am even towing anything. Happy wife, happy towing life :>)

We are now set for our planned upgrade to a 5er in 4-5 years.
