Tow Vehicle?

My current tow vehicle is a 2012Chevy Silverado 1500. It's a four wheel drive with a 5.3L engine and six speed automatic. In looking around for a Toy Hauler I've gotten a half dozen replies to wether it will haul a 22RR. From "Heck No! to Sure, with a weight distributing hitch and brake system it should be fine. I really can't afford a new tow vehicle and really feel like the 22RR is exactly what I want. Any opinions on this are more than welcome from those that have towed
a travel trailer with a 1500 Chevy or what have you? Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. For starters, take a picture or at least post the info of the weight ratings sticker located in the door jam. Folks here need to know the ratings of your truck to give any kind of recommendation.

Whats your payload capacity and max towing. you will most likely hit the max payload before your max tow. Payload is passangers, and gear in truck.

My previous truck was a 2009 GMC Sierra crew cab 4WD with 5.3 engine and towing package. It towed my ROO 23SS fine, but, I knew it was back there on the hills.

I was comfortable towing and within all my numbers. My Roo weighs 4,500lbs. from the factory......add in propane, battery, full tank of water and all the gear in the trailer and I'm probably shy of 6,000 lbs.

You really need to look at your numbers, truck and trailer and toy or cargo. If your numbers support towing the trailer, you probably will have as much trailer as you would want.

From the trailer you need:
1 - GVWR
2 - tongue weight

From you truck you need:
1 - GVWR
2 - Max Tow rating
3 - Max Payload

Then:
1 - Check the max tow against the 22RR GVWR
2 - Check the tongue weight against your truck max tongue weight.
3 - Check the tongue weight plus all your cargo against your payload.

Those are the minimum 3 checks you need to do.

That being said, I towed my former 23IKSS (5400lbs dry) with a BMW X5 for 12000 miles w/o problems but I know that car inside out and exactly how to set up a WDH properly so the end result was Phenomenal in terms of stability. Not so great to keep speed going up, even though we did the IKE....
So yes, you can tow at the limit but you need to know what you are doing.
