Thanks all. My husband understands the wheelbase issue. He test drove the escalade and it didn't fit what he wanted anyways. The cheapest, most efficient route would be to put a cap on the silverado. We have 3 dogs, so can't fit 3 large crates in the back but they weren't in their crates inside the truck either. We'd have to modify the rear window to a slide window to allow air/heat into the topper too.

We love our Silverado. It's well built, and my husband has it tuned transmission and motor wise right where he likes it. He hates the look with the topper, and I don't blame him. Either I'll have to cave and get an SUV with a longer wheelbase or he'll end up caving and getting a topper installed.

And I didn't take offense to the "master tech" comment. He's an automotive guru, you'd be hard pressed to find a way to insult that.

There should be plenty of used ones now since they upgraded the towing capacity in 2014.

Nissan has quality issues. I have a Nissan Frontier as my daily driver, granted it's got 112k miles on it now but the rear main has leaked since 60k miles and it's a $1400 fix. Not to mention all the little stuff, I ended up buying a code scanner to have in my garage because the check engine light is on so much. But i am only into the truck (crew cab, 4x4) for $5000 and it still books for $9000 so I can justify fixing it without getting too upset.

My former boss has a Titan and he hasn't had much better luck with his 5.6L.
