It is a 2006, with the 4.6l engine. If I go around 50-55 mph I get 14 mpg, going at 60-65 ends up in 11 mpg. Mixture of hilly windy combinations, all on highway. You should get better numbers with a later year and a 5.4l engine for sure. I do NOT stomp on the gas pedal and baby it .....

Goomph, I get about the same mileage as you in the 65 mph range with a 2006 5.4L with a 3.73 final drive, so I am not sure that the newer trucks would get much better......although the 6 speed transmission might help, vs. our 4 speeds. Most of the 55 mph roads around here are rolling hills with stop lights, so I don't have a good comparison with your figures on those. The best I have gotten in hill country here is 12.3 mpg on a recent trip to Philpott Lake. I drive my truck like you.....easy on the gas & brake when possible.

My truck also has a 3.73 ratio. Do you have the 17" or 18" tires ? If I drive in stop and go traffic or stop at a lof of traffic lights I am closer to 11 mpg for sure even if I drive at 50 mph. I do NOT like traffic lights and stop signs 5.4 should give at least another 1 mpg better results then mine in same conditioons I kept reading. If I hit the jackpot, I am so buying a 6.0l Diesel F350

Thanks for the heads up on the late modle f-series trucks. My current rig is under the 6k weight and same general size so I was flip flopping about the diesel and extra up front cost, cost of fuel etc. The life span of the diesels is better but by the time I would be replacing my rig it would be time to repace even a diesel. It's all about the milage vs cost vs expected life vs capacity/capability.

Don't know, we've only had the trailer out once (it's only a week old ). Haven't gotten enough miles on it to make an estimate. Others I know with a similar setup (6.5 diesel TV and trailer size) report anywhere from 12-16 mpg. My truck usually "tickles" 20 MPG unloaded in day to day driving and 23-24 MPG straight highway...
