Tow Vehicle vs Travel Trailer

We are taking an extra person on the next trip and was wondering if you are better off adding more stuff to the TV or the TT? I've always heard add to the TT but we must stop and eat on our next trip on the way so putting it over my axles is an issue. Am I better off throwing the stuff in the back of the truck?

if you posted your trailer model and truck(with specs), it would help answering your question.

don't have an idea of your trailer's GVWR and dry weight, nor the engine, rear end ratio, brand or model of truck you're talking about.

need to know the specs of each to give an informed answer.

It's both a question of comfort and towing. If I had my druthers, it's preferable to me to have the trailer aisle free for pitstops.

As for what the extra cargo does for towing, a little extra cargo won't effect much but a lot more will impact your towing. How much extra do you plan to carry?

Ditto on bikendan's request for TT and TV info. How close are you to the TT GVWR? To the truck's payload and rear axle ratings?

Also, if its a lot of extra cargo/weight, remember that where you load the extra cargo in the trailer will effect the TW and you might need to adjust the WDH to compensate.

That assumes his truck or trailer, (whichever gets the extra cargo) is not going to exceed its GVWR.

Not to scare you off, but:

How close are you to your Gross Combined Weight as it sits?

How close is the truck to its Max Gross Weight?

How close is the Camper to ITS Max Gross Weight?

All things being equal and you will not exceed any of the above, IMO, if you are talking about a suitcase or two, the camper is the place for extra luggage. Just sit it on the sofa or dinette. That way you are only dealing with rolling friction of the extra load and it is not in your way.

In the truck, it will be in the way inside and might get wet outside in the bed (even if covered). Ruined some HO trains I was bringing to the grand kids while traveling to the West Coast due to splash coming UP through the bed drains in a downpour. I had a hard shell cover on the bed at the time and did not think I needed to worry about water intrusion.
