Just wait until the EPA / gubmint comes down on Heavy Duty pickups, and that day is coming my friend. The manufacturers are already starting to gear up for it. Its going to eventually get to the point where in order to even own a HD truck your going to need to either have a legitimate business that requires it, or you'll need to pay some sky high environmental use tax. Plan on lumping class A's and C's into that category also. It's only a matter of time.

Your 3500 only costs you the same as a car to register?

Yeah, car is $35 a year to register, 2500 is $200 or so to register. Inspections are the same, but the 2500 does not need emissions so that save $75 over the car. I am not sure about the insurance.

I am less worried about a usage fee and more interested in when ALL vehicles get hit with the DEF type exhaust requirements.

EDIT: truck is $204 for now

Yea we pay about $50 for the cars, the 3500 is the same & no emission testing as yet for either, on this end of the state. The trailer cost just over $100 for a permanent tag and state inspections are $16 each vehicle. Just a regular drivers licence no special endorsements for towing the trailer.

Hopefully the RV & other industries can keep the EPA at bay ........

We sure do get hit with the personal property taxes on our trucks, here in Virginia, though. My 2015 Chevy 3500HD tax bill is over $2,000.00 for this year. It will be about the same next year.

The finance guy at the dealer somehow submitted my 2500 as a class 3 @ 9000 lb which saves me $46 (two boxes of beer) per year.

As far as DEF, diesel is a different animal. I could be wrong but the nitrogen oxides the DEF reduces are not something you get from a gas engine. The gassers get whacked with the reformulated summer gas every year.

Yes it is diffrent but I am sure they will come up with a version of def for cars as well. Halogen fluid maybe? So the headlights stay brighter longer...

I cannot remember but I think I could do 9000, class 3, or 4a.. I chose the 4a for the larger tow rating.

From what I understand is the sulfur emission of diesel was reduce around 2006 causes the price of diesel to exceed the price of gas due to refining cost. Now in 2016/17 sulfur in gas has to be reduced by 66% which will raise refining cost of gas closer to or more than diesel.

Property tax on truck? Or do you mean license fee/tax.

Agreed, but it depends on where you live in Virginia, the counties or cities set there own tax rates. Where I live I pay less than $700 on two cars, the truck, and the camper......utility trailers & antique vehicles are exempt.

No its personal property tax, the vehicle licence tag fee is paid to the state, the personal property tax goes to the city or county where you live...... and the rates vary dramatically......

We have to pay property tax on antique in my state but the catch is the all are valued at .50 and yes they do charge us 1 cent tax and use a banker rounding to 1.00 and yes I take it off my income taxes as a deduction..

Really interesting how vehicle taxes vary so much from state to state. A new truck purchased in Georgia incurs about a one percent extra difference on the sales tax but from that point forward the annual tags are only $20.

Plates on my car and truck run about 1500.00 per year and the car year older and only about 75.00 less than my truck.

Yes. Every year. I live in Northern Virginia in Fairfax County. There's no higher property taxes anywhere in this great Commonwealth.

I cant wait to move to Pennsylvania.

I could literally tow 4 of my trailers before hitting my max capacity. So not pulling a Travel Trailer. BUT on the ranch I've towed 36,000lbs of stone when we were building a retaining wall. It was from one side of the ranch to the other on private roads. Using a huge Triaxle BigTex goose neck. We balanced the weight really well, so it didn't feel bad or appear to make the truck squat much. We determined the weight from the driver of the tractor trailer who delivered it. He said it came in a around 36k on the truck scale.
