Towing a 2016 Chevy Colorado

Hi:

I am getting ready to set up my Colorado for a toad.

I've found one or two posts about a tranny oil pump. My manual doesn't mention that.
Is it or is it not needed on the chevy colorado 4x4 ?

Thanks,
Ken

If it set up like the trailblazers, it may have the option to put the transfer case in neutral for flat towing. I am not sure if it is or not on a 2016 or even a Colorado. You would have to check the manual.

Thanks for the replies.

I do have the manual and know how to set the tranny (transfer case) for towing.

I just became a little concerned when I read other posts talking about using the fluid pump.

Thanks again.

I have a 2016 Colorado I will be dingy towing it for the first time this week. In the manual it give you the information on how to do it. You have to have a 4 wheel drive model. You have to go through several steps as listed in the manual. You also have to disconnect the negative battery terminal. I had an rv shop install me a disconnect switch. You do have to follow the steps as listed in the manual. If you deviate it may not work.

I did tow it a few times around the storage unit just to make sure it worked. I had the Brake Buddy Stealth installed on the truck and motorhome. When it was installed the motorhome had a recall on the hitch so I could not tow it until it was fixed. I missed a trip to San Antonio during Thanksgiving week because of the recall. We ended up staying at a hotel on the river. Very disappointed I was not able to tow the Colorado.

Thanks for the response.

I agree, the manual doesn't leave any room for doubt as to the procedure they want when towing four down.
I guess I was overly concerned about a couple threads I was reading where a post said they had to put a tranny fluid pump on. I'm going with the opinion it was an earlier model or the poster was trying to play it extra safe.

Happy to hear it tows as advertised. I hope to get mine set up within the next month. I've gotten prices for fully installed Blue Ox BP, tow bar and the Air Force1 (and wiring the truck) for $3800 all the way up to $6000.

I retire in two weeks and will have time to get it all done after that.

Thanks again.

Ken

Hi Jaime,

I looking at buying a 2016 Colorado for a toad. Wonder how you've made out with yours... I have a fiat 500 toad now... Works great, but not so good in the desert.

Be interested to know how you hooked it up, how it tows and how difficult to get it into tow mode...

Thanks for your time.

I have towed mine only while testing so far. We go on our first real trip to the tadpole rally on Wednesday.

All worked fine. I did notice the weight difference on the accelerator as compared to using a tow dolly with the Prius we used to have.
Not difficult to hook up at all. Just make sure to follow all the steps in the manual and it will be fine.

It was still attached to the MH when we got back home, so I'm confident we will have many miles of towing this year.
