I had a 3/4 ton GMC gas and went to the 3500 DRW RAM Cummins there is no Comparrision in towing ability. If you shop around you can get a 1 ton cheaper than a 3/4 ton especially a DRW

Some people believe that what they put in their bed of truck is cargo but since the 5er hitch attaches to the frame it isn't in the bed and doesn't count as payload.

Thanks. I don't believe anyone towing overloaded cares enough to make changes, not even if towing with white knuckles. The majority probably don't know and since the truck and or camper salesperson told the they are fine their minds will not be changed. Well, some care and some will adjust but a minority imo. From what I've seen I think TT owners are more open to getting numbers correct than those with 5ers or MHz.

Take this forums advise. A dual rear wheel truck is best for 33IK. My trucks rear axle weight loaded is 7100#. Ford F-250 SRW.

We went from a 3/4 ton truck to a Chevy 3500SRW. Very stable on the roads and it pulls our 34 ft 5th wheel very smoothly. I upgraded to a 1ton because I knew the truck was overloaded. Lots more stopping power and no sway when big rigs pass me. Common sense tells you that being overloaded is potentially dangerous as well as opens up liabilities should an accident occur.
Costs a bit more, but well worth it.

If you are buying a truck, get the most truck you can. I'd rather have too much truck than just enough. On newer trucks the ride difference between 2500hd and 3500hd is not much. SRW or DRW? Depends on preference and if it's a daily driver or not. We prefer SRW for overall use.

Before you buy a slider hitch for a 6.5 bed, look at the sidewinders. Much better solution. I find sliders to be too heavy, take up too much room, and seem to bind when you need them most. If it would fit in my garage, I would prefer a long bed for towing though I find them aesthetically unattractive. Then no need for special hitches.

Enjoy your new rig!!
