Towing a Nissan Frontier

We have a 2016 25ft 2431 Forester with the Ford V10 engine. Is I practical to consider towing a 2016 Nissan Forester PU that weighs 5700 pounds?

We have towed our Jeep Grand Cherokee (weighing in at 5240 at a CAT scale with a half tank of gas) with our Forester. No problems, but wouldn't recommend towing in mountainous areas -- would slow you down.

Towing a Nissan Forester

Thanks SkipnTerri for the reply. Still considering the Nissan Forester but would like to have a first hand report on what one weighs.

Is the Frontier automatic? If it is you can't tow it 4 wheels down.

Nissan Frontier

We want to buy a four door PU to tow in order to take a Small ATV. We were told that the Frontier with auto trans could not be towed. So if we get a Frontier it will be stick shift. Was told by a dealer salesman that the Frontier weighed 5,700 pound. Some one else told us that no way would a Frontier weigh that much - that a Ford F150 only weighs about 6,000 pounds. Have searched the internet and can't find the actual weight.

I have a Nissan Frontier Crew Cab 6-speed manual. And yes, they do weight up to 5,700 gross vehicle weight depending on the model Frontier. Subtract about 800 - 1,200 lbs for empty weight. For a smaller size PU the Frontier is pretty beefy. The Titan, Xterra and Frontier all use the same frame and axles, thus, they weigh a more than you might expect. I use mine as a TV.

Thanks HangDriver. With a Frontier and an ATV we would be over 6,000 lbs. We go to the West coast of Mexico each Winter. Enter Mexico from Texas and cross the mountains that are at the top 9,000 ft. So am concerned about the weight of a towed vehicle. We now tow a 2013 Honda CRV. In years past, before for the new toll road was built we have unhooked and drove separate because the old road was treacherous. Might do that if we get a Frontier.

If you get the Frontier (the short bed has a better turning radius) you could load the ATV, gas up and weigh it on a scale. Then no more guessing!

You should be able to tow your automatic transmission Frontier if you install a driveshaft disconnect. I installed one on our 4wd Pathfinder with an automatic transmission.

The Nissan Frontier's not recommended for dinghy towing.

However true this is about the 2016 Nissan Frontier, earlier models, all the way back to 2009 shows they can be towed - the same place that was used to show that the 2016 model couldn't be towed.

Remember the weight of what you put in the Toad is added to the total weight as well. The truck weight plus the cargo might put you over and if that weight is right at the back like a quad would be a sway issue.

Towing a Nissan Frontier

The hitch weight limit would be a concern as would the tow bar limit.
