Unloaded trailer weight is 12,670 on bigger trailer, and 10,880 on smaller one.

12670 is dry weight without batteries and propane. If you load 1500 lbs of stuff which is really easy to do that would 12670 + 1500 = 14,170.
Don't worry about driving us nuts we have all been there and cost me truck upgrade.
At least you getting information to make a educated guess on which 5er you want to purchase. Also, remember you can tow huge Travel trailer because the hitch weights are 10 to 15 percent not 20 to 25 percent.

Honestly, I have bern in your shoes. I bought an f250 diesel thinking it's a diesel, I can tow almost any fiver i want. Boy was I wrong. My old f250 only had a 1500 lb payload do you are in better shape then I was. My f250 loved towing my 7300 lb tt. My 3500 loves towing my 12,300 lb fiver. I got tone here I am by learning the calculations we are now teaching you.
And CWSwine is correct, you will be able to tow a bigger tt than fiver with that truck.

It is not really that confusing. You have a 2300 lb payload capacity. Subtract 200 lbs for hitch and 300 lbs for occupants. That leaves 1800 lbs for pin weight. Look for a fiver with a 1500-1600 lb dry pin weight.

OR a nicer bumper pull.
OR add airbags and higher rated tires.
But moving down in that size, also removes a whole lot of stuff that I didn't want to live without........6 point auto leveling, wood cabinets, bigger tv, yada yada.........and now Mama ain't happy.
And neither am I really.
I still wonder if adding air bags and better tires would allow the smaller 5th wheel to be ok.........................................

Air bags, tires etc do not increase your towing capacity.

Show me somewhere that someone has been sued for being overweight. According to you I would not even be able to leave my driveway with my camper. A 36CKTS only weighs 700lb more than mine, fully loaded. I have a 100gl fuel tank in bed. I tell you what if everyone listened to all the weight people there not be anymore fifth wheels sold that was over 30ft or everyone would have to have 4500 or bigger. I'm not going to change anyone's mind so I'm going to post on something else. Buy what you and your wife want and have fun.
You know if everyone listened to all the weight police there would be less campgrounds, people would be afraid to pull anything.

Serious question.
IS the towing capacity of a Chevy 3500 that much better? If I had a 3500, is that CKTS doable and fine to pull????????
Yes/no????

Yes towing capacity is less because probably of the truck weights more, but the payload capacity is 1000 lbs more which is very important when towing fifth wheel.....

He is my experience. Had an F-250 diesel towed a 10,000# GCVW 5er. Was a little over on the payload weight. Bought an F-350 SRW, decided to get a bigger trailer a 13,000# GCWV. Now it started to get interesting. Got pushed thru a few traffic lights, when down the Rockies with engine screaming at 3,300/3,500 rpm and wife screaming slow down. Got a new truck 3500, dually, with a great exhaust brake. Put 30,000 mile on trailer and truck no problems. Got a bigger trailer, a CC 38ck, almost like yours. 16,300# GVWR. The truck and trailer are a match. Can pull, can stop no screaming, all is well. I would say a 9,000 to 10,000# GVWR trailer would be your comfortable limit. You want to move from a 5,000# trailer to a 41' 16,000# trailer thats a big jump, 4 1/2 ton increase. The driving charcterists will be totally different.

I have a Silverado 3500 SRW and I have never been pushed under stop lights. I keep the exhaust brake on all the time. When I'm coming down a steep mountain or anytime for that matter, the tow/haul and cruise is always on. Case in point a bad mountain in NC is Black Mountain when I pull over it I set the cruise at 45 and when I get to the bottom of the mountain I'm still going 45 and I have not touched the brakes.

Door sticker on my SRW 3500 duramax long bed crew cab 4x4 with LT trim is 4000 lbs. Loaded with full tank of fuel, family, hitch, dog, and everything else in truck, cat scale payload is 3200 lbs.
That ckts would be pushing it for my truck, I would go dually with that exact trailer. There are other ckts models that would fit within my specs though.

OP: Not sure if you ever found the stickers on your truck, but there there... Just hidden. I could not find my stickers at first on my 2015.5 but they were hiding in plain site, just bellow my vision point.
