Towing camper

I have a 2014 Ram 1500 Quad Cab 5.7 Liter 4x4 with 3.21 gears and 8 speed transmission. I plan on buying a new 24' surveyor which has a dry weight of 5700 lbs roughly. I plan to add a brake controller and possibly air bags. I would like to put a leveling kit and maybe bigger tires on the truck. Anyone see any problems with my set up and mod plans for the truck? Any advice or tips? Thanks in advance.

3.21 gears, towing, bigger tires.

Honestly, I would re gear to 4.10.

What does your manual say about tow ratings. Changing gears not cheap now days. Later RJD

Gears are not cheap...

But, increasing tire size will effectively lower your gear ratio.

Thanks for the replies. I don't want to go to big on tires just want a little more rubber then factory street tires. Want a nice set of all terrains.

Your truck will struggle with the small gear ratio and the potentially 6500# trailer, without adding even slightly bigger tires, which will makes things worse.

Your truck has an 8500# tow capacity. It'll struggle a little, but those 8 speed transmissions are good at keeping the RPM's up and in the power band. My '13 1500 with 3.55 and 6 speed tows my 6850# dry weight TT just fine.

I would strongly suggest not going with larger tires until you re-gear to 3.73 or 4.10.

You can also look in to a DiabloSport tuner with HemiFever tuning to get some more umph while towing. Single best upgrade for the Hemi.

3.21 is not ideal, but you should be OK with a good WDH (not the friction type). You should be able to get level while towing with the WDH properly adjusted.

I have a longer, heavier TT, check my sig for specs.

When looking at bigger tires, be sure to consider hitch height especially if using air bags. If the rcvr is too high, you may have trouble finding a drop bar for your WDH to get the ball to the correct height
