According to my research the max travel trailer loaded I want to pull is about .80 percent of 9,500 or 7,600 lbs. can I get a second opinion on this from you more experienced guys?
That's sounds right from what I had read also. Someone will probably come on and tell you eXactly. If you do a little research I am sure it can be easily found.
you don't mention if you have the HD tow package. i'm sure that 9500 number requires having that.
i think you're wise using the 80% formula.

Yes 9500lbs if equipped with hd trailering and hd cooling pkg. I pull a tt just over 8k with mine and it does well I sure wouldn't want to pull in any mountains with it.

Going with your numbers above, start with your curb weight, then add passengers and gear to the truck. With a crew cab, figure two adults and two kids, plus just their gear (ipods, jackets snacks and such at 500 lbs. That leaves you with 1212 payload rating. and your GCVWR would be 13.4 so under your posted 15 figure.
A 7600 lb trailer with a 15% tongue weight (the maximum you want in tongue weight) would be 1140. You would be under your payload rating by a few pounds. With some skill at loading the trailer, you could cut that tongue weight down a bit.
So at the weight you posted, yes you would be under your max weight ratings.

Travis, my Chevy sounds very similar to yours; it has all the HD towing options (coolers, synthetic lubricants, etc.), short bed crew, LC9 (E85) motor (326HP), stock size wheels and tires, 6 speed Allison, plus 3:73 gears (!), 326HP and 348lb/ft torque. The information I have is that with all these it will pull 9500#, but your maximum calculated at 7600# has some merit. This is of course, with a properly setup WDH and weights properly distributed. This 7600# number is possible, but slightly high IMHO. It is a matter of torque and power range of this engine. It is possible to overload that 3950# rated rear axle if you put anything heavy in the bed.
The 21RR I pull, is maybe 6500# going camping, with 750# on the tongue; it is ALL the trailer I would ever pull in the low hills with this truck. This would be with a bike, but no water. I would recommend putting nothing in the bed. What I don't like about even pulling with my truck (the 21RR) is that you must keep the RPM above 2500 to 3500 RPMs. It will many times be in as low as 3rd gear, rarely for sure, but much of the time in 4th for the slightest grade; never ever past 5th. I have been on 16% grade and it would barely pull 2nd gear at 22-25MPH at near wide open throttle. This would be at maybe 3000 RPM... It will cook the transmission doing this. The ambient temp was around 45 degrees and the tranny hit 290 degrees. I backed off when I saw this. So, another point is you can't be in any hurry.
I don't use tow/haul, never use cruise control; rather prefer to manually shift the Allison. As you know, if you manually select 4th it won't shift to 5th. Traveling and camping is supposed to be fun... the 5.3L simply is not fun pulling even 6000#. It has enough HP, so, if you wind the heck out of it, it will pull. But, again this is not fun for me.
I have pulled for 15,000 miles with this combination. I have a long history of pulling.
So, IMHO our pick'em'ups will pleasantly pull up to 5500#, again IMHO it takes a 3/4 ton past that, but at 8000# and up, you really need a diesel. Also, my truck is rated to get 21MPG highway... the best it has ever gotten is 18.1 MPG Interstate, 65 MPH, with cruise, flat highway; empty truck (tonneau cover only, which should have helped economy); no trailer. While pulling the 21RR at 60 MPH, it averages less than 10MPG (9.4 to 10.4). Hope this helps.
I am not sure how to edit this but 2012 I camped 163 days, but none so far this year... yet. Ready to go!! I have washed and waxed "the Wild One" however.

I would double check your trailer weight capacity. A 3.42 rear gear is unlikely to be 9000+ IMO.

Did you do a gear change to 3.73? I thought the 3.73 was only available with the 6.2L engine. The Eco is not going to get 12-14 towing your trailer. More likely 10.

You are correct on Eco mileage. I get 11 mpg towing at 60 mph.

They have a 6 speed trans thats why they get the 9500 rating with a 3.42.
Yeah, you are right and my intuition was wrong. I bet that means a fair amount of towing in 4th and 5th; probably 3rd on the tougher climbs. But, I guess that is what gears are for!

The trailer I am looking at has a dry weight around 5900 lbs. Dry hitch rate of 610 LBS. The GVWR on the trailer is 7500. I think I will be good with this TT and the set up on my truck. I also have upgraded the tires to some E rated tires. Thanks for everybody's input. I have gathered some great information.

I have read that, too. You can also find all kinds of numbers concerning payload / towing capabilities. I don't know if it was a special order, but it does indeed have 3:73. I can't crawl under it and read the tag to you (I might be able to share the VIN), because I traded it today for a Dodge 2500 Cummins diesel. I had edited my post to say 12MPG on the Eco, but it didn't come out that way, computers really don't like me. I have a friend who tows a fairly large Airstream with an Eco and really does get 14, but to think pulling a Wolf would have the same result would be indeed presumptuous of me. Haven't tried it, obviously, but I bet the Dodge will get 14 or better. I actually pulled it down the road and back... holy cow! the torque is awesome... a mere 800 lb/ft.
