Funny that's what we did, tow dolly pulling Nissan Altima got the Jeep GC in April but it's a 2015 it only had 16k when we got it. Our Sunseeker is a 3100ss, might would have liked a double side, but I love what we have, which is an improvement from the 27ft TT we had. Things just keep getting better, like you getting older and trying to make it easier.

TOAD… have a Quantum KM25 M Benz 3.0 diesel. Spec indicate 5000lb towing. Has anyone really towed 5000lb with this unit? If so, how did it go?

5,000 lbs is probably just the hitch 'rating', NOT what the vehicle can pull, or has enough GVWR left to pull that much.... very doubtful - even most ClassA's with a 10,000lb hitch don't necessarily have enough to pull even 5,000.

Thanks for the info. Doing Alaska this May and not sure if a TOAD is needed. Going to try in do from Denver in 40-days? Have been looking at the 2018 JL wrangler which is around 4,000lbs. Again thanks for info.

ID:	163754 DWs 2010 SRX which we have dollied for 2 years needed replacing, and we wanted more seats for the Grands car seats. Figured would be a good chance to change to 4 down. Found GM was dealing on 2018 Acadias that seats 7 and just required putting in neutral and starting for 5 min during fuel stops. We just did 2200 Georgia to Texas roundtrip without a problem.

If traveling the ALCAN hwy I would highly suggest some sort of rock protection for your tow behind both times I traveled granted twenty years ago once in December the last in April road was rough lots of pebbles/ gravel on the road

Towing cars with 4 wheels down! Which are cars best for this!

We are setting up a 2018 Hyundai Elantra sport to tow 4 down.

Had a 2012 Jeep Liberty that was 4 down approved but wanted to save the weight.

Looking at the available weight in a new class a gas we had our eye on there was not enough gross weight left to tow the 4300 lb Jeep.

The class a had 5k hitch but when I ran the numbers the gross combined would have been hit around 3700 lbs of Toad. Was a nice coach but if we maxed out carrying capacity in the coach that is where we would have been.

Decided to go smaller and lighter.

Elantra is about 2700 lbs. and 6 speed. Just hook up, put in neutral and go.

Will be doing roadmaster base plate and tow bar. Blue Ox has base plate but have to drill large hole through the frame for theirs, Roadmaster doesn’t have the same need - just some plastic trimming. Have not decided on braking setup yet.

Side bonus was the good deal and good trade in on the new one so still not another payment with the new vehicle which is always nice. Plus long warranty.

If you are looking new check the base plates etc. since we went 2018 was hard to find combo that was vehicle we would want and base plates available as well.

Is that Elantra a stickshifft? We've been under the impression that very few new cars with automatics can be towed 4 down , except some Jeeps.

Yes, it is a six speed. The automatic Elantra is not authorized for 4 down towing.

Actually fun to drive with the turbo too [emoji3]

Gas mileage is a whole lot better than the Jeep as well. Pretty much loaded except navigation and couple other things we didn’t care about and was about 20 all in which made the whole thing easier to do.

The 2017 and 2018 Ford F150 4X4's can be towed four wheels down. Both transmission and transfer case must be shifted into neutral and the four wheel down mode must be engaged.
