Towing Chevy Colorado or GMC Canyon 4 Down

I decided that I wanted a small truck to tow 4 wheels down and Motorhome said both the Chevy Colorado and the GMC Canyon were towable. It said they had to be “4WD WITH A NEUTRAL and a 4L SETTING”. I was thrilled until I started looking at 30 trucks and NONE had a Neutral setting for the transfer case. HELP! Am I missing something or is it just very rare to find a towable small truck with a N setting. Have any of you gone thru this? Is there a fix for this?

The Colorado and Canyon do have a neutral setting with the transfer case, on the newer models it’s on the 4WD knob all the way to the right and there is a sequence to follow to switch to neutral. See attached pic.

I found one Colorado that did not work and of course that was the one I was thinking about buying. I am now looking at a GMC Canyon all terrain 4WD and it works just like that. Thanks!

Most all new model 4x4 have a Neutral, you just probably don't see it on the knob because it lights up when you engage it.

Since the transfer case is selected electronically, does the ignition have to be on when flat towing it?

Not for the transfer case, no. The key does need to be left in the ACC position to prevent the steering wheel lock from engaging, though, and the battery should be disconnected.
