You say avoid the EB because they consistently have major issues. Every actual EB owner on FRF is relaying a different story. Most have many towing miles with no problems-though there have been a few issues reported over the years. I guess it's gotten to the point where those reading can choose to believe your or everyone else. I'll just leave it at that.

Rv owners.
RV owners that have a FR.
Rv owners that have a FR and are on here.
Rv owners that have a FR, are here and have an ecoboost.

So you arrived at your conclusion by doing a nationwide poll of all EB owners? Well, I guess you'd have to do a poll including all Canadian and US owners. You yourself mentioned that the issues would be more prominent with those using the EB for heavy service. (Well, you actually said the Cummins issues would be more common because they were used for heavy service, so we'll apply that same logic here) RV towing is about as heavy as it gets. So, theoretically, users here on the forums should have a much higher occurrence of issues than the general population. Therefore, if you know anything about statistics, my sample should actually tilt the results even more toward your conclusion than a random sample of the entire population- even more reason to doubt the validity of the claims that this is a major and common issue.

Here's another small sample then.

My students do a four month practicum at dealerships for the automotive program I teach.

I have students at 3 Ford dealers.

In the last 4 months, I have seen 4 eb engines torn down for timing chains. All with less than 50km on them.

Would you agree that might be an issue?

Uhhhhhh my brother was a lead tech at a large Ford garage......told me to never buy an EB....nothing but trouble....course I can't say it in his words lol lol something about them being pieces of (blank)......

2013 F150 EB here. Towing 7500#. 50,000 miles with 22,000 towing. No problems, Love that EcoBoost!



It also fits in a garage at home. A plus for me.

I left my comments about you being a liar at that. Not sure how you interpreted that to mean I would no longer discuss the EB engine, but I digress. Yes, you already stated this about your students. Not sure how you interpret 3 local Ford dealers to be a more inclusive sample space than a forum open to users worldwide. Your experience there is not indicative of the experience with anyone I've known, myself nor the vast number of users on the forums. And that's not much of a control group, either- especially considering we know nothing of the history on the use and care of these trucks. I venture that if I were teaching kids that were working at the local Dodge dealer they'd see some Cummins issues as well. Or any other make/model/engine you could name.

I never exceed 65MPH (Max speed of trailer tires) Typically I will set the cruise control on 63 and just go--flat, up or down hills. The EcoBoost has a really nice engine brake that works well maintaining speed going down the hills.

I keep hearing how great these little engines are and how the out preform V8s and even some say they tow like diesel so why don't they put them in HD trucks? They announced the engine line for the 2017 HD still no EB. They did announce that there will be a V10 option in 2017.

My F350 1 ton is shorter than F150 Crew Cab and fits fine in my garage. Matter A Fact the F150 Crew Cab won't fit in my garage.

Because Ford doesn't consider the EB as a "heavy duty" motor.

Its the same reason GM still uses the 6.0 iron block Vortec in their HD trucks and not the 6.2 aluminum block Ecotec.

It's all good until the EPA sticks its nose a little deeper into HD trucks, and that day is coming.

You also get more with heavy duty trucks than just heavy duty engines such as heavier frames, brakes, drive line components, gear, etc. Its not all about HP, torque, and fuel mileage but for some reason that is the only things most people consider.

The only saving grace, is the fact that it's covered under emissions!!

Also an F250/350 weighs 1500-1800lbs more. That would drop the mpgs down. Now add that extra weight while towing and you won't get that great performance you do with a lighter 1/2 ton. More mass to move.

Holy F#&^$K Batman................

Off topic but I had a 2013 EB Company ride which developed a carbon build up misfire @ 64K.........Dealer wanted $3000+ to repair and Ford was resisting repairing it under any warranty. The Ford zone rep said it would happen again. The company traded it on the 5.0 F150 I am driving now. Curiously two other EB's the company has now have the carbon issue, I believe they are 2014's.

That was part of my point that many on here say they make more HP and Torque than a V8. Shouldn't they move that large mass better and get better performance than a V8 with lower Torque and HP?

I for one would like it if they would give that option of the EB in the HD's but I don't think we will ever see the current line up of up EB ever put into the HD's. Maybe in the future Ford will develop a EB that can take the duty cycle required in the HD market.

Carbon build up is very common on all direct injection engines.
