Generally try for 65. I find that using cruise (at least in slightly hilly areas) I lose about 1 mpg do to the transmission kicking down 2 gears to get the speed up right away. Wayne

I also run 65 and use the cruise regularly. The way I have found to stop the tranny from downshifting on hills is to watch and find the point where the transmission will downshift (mine is at about 2-3 mph below the set speed). When I feel the motor start to work harder I watch the speedometer and when it reaches 2 mph below the setpoint I put my foot on the gas and cancel the cruise to keep the transmission from downshifting going up hill. Worked well for me even in the mountains out west on our trip to the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone earlier this summer.

55 with CC when traveling alone easier on the fuel ups - usually end up around 65 when going in a group though

I have found that 57 to 60 is about where I keep it at and average between 10 and 11 mpg - cruise control works best for this for me - I am in no rush either besides being in a lifted truck doesnt help me - I think it makes it worse for towing with LOL

Showed my DH your post; just told him to read it. Then he asked if I posted it. LOL!! Glad I'm not the only paranoid panicky person out there. In my defense, however, I was involved in several car crashes (roll over, rear end collision where my head smacked and BROKE the windshield, etc.) where I was NOT the driver and if I'm not driving, I'm not in "control" of the situation. Could also be my LEO personality. When we're driving through lots of traffic, I've decided to just close my eyes and not worry about it because every time I jump, he gets startled, which is not a great situation when pulling a 32' TT.

Same here. I set the cruise at about 67 MPH and the truck seems to pull perfect there. It will go faster if I let it, but 67 is plenty fast. I have never had it downshift more than once on the hills to keep the set speed(though I've only got about 500 towing miles on our current rig).

+1 one on everything mtnguy said. I'm typically a 60-ish MPH type, or in 4th gear for me that's about 2100 RPM.

I actively work to NOT be in a hurry when camping, from the moment I leave the house to the moment I get back. I tow at no more than 60. If I see something interesting on the way, I will stop. I don't set schedules for myself. This may not work for everyone, but for me, camping is all about relaxing and getting away from all the schedules and hurrying that I am involved in when not camping.

I agree 100%. I don't even where my watch. No schedules, no rush, no stress. That's what camping is to me.

I usually run 70-75 until all the people that are running 55-60 on the interstate start clogging up the road and then I get in the hammer lane and run with the traffic.

I'm on vacation also and I don't want to spend it driving. I want to camp and fish. I drive everyday all day at work.

so, went on a 1200km camping trip this weekend... maintained 100-110 and hit highs of 140 and sometime 120 for extended times.. no blow outs, nothing and it didnt really hurt my mileage going faster. biggest factor was wind again!

65 MPH for me, truck and trailer ride very well, my best fuel mileage towing is right at 65 as the engine is purring at this speed.

They expy seems happiest at ~2500 rpm and that works out to around 60-65mph (I believe it's in 3rd, but then nothing around here is flat). Holds pretty well there, with the occasional downshift (up to 4000rpm) to maintain speed up hills. MPG is around 9.5 to 10.
