This one is only qualified for a 3500# pop up or A frame provided all gear is inside the truck.

The point I was trying to make about the stickered payload is that if the actual can be so much lower than what a scale shows, what happens to people who are out shopping for a TV and use the sticker max. payload as a criteria to base their purchase on? It's not a little bit off, it's like 1000 lbs different. I'm okay with the 1000 lbs less as it doesn't change anything for us, but it was very surprising.

Otherwise, I guess I am finding it hard to accept when people make flippant remarks about things like "weight police" and are indifferent to overloading their TVs and are making interpretations and comments to justify why it's okay. Or say that it's the lawyers and engineers causing the issues. There are people who are tasked with protecting the public and then some come along making their own judgements on the rules. If they are trained and qualified to make determinations on manufacturers ratings, that'd be different. Anyway, this isn't just on this forum, it's everywhere else too.

I prolly should have kept my mouth shut and gone and had a nap.....

Sorry, Turbs and I already have the stand set up popping corn. You can have the beverage stand.

Hey Turbs, don't forget the butter! We're BIB!

I plan to get my rig weighed on thursday - the trucks GVWR is 7000 lbs. This doesn't change as you add options and accessories - your available payload does.

I think that is what myredracer was getting at.

Like tow ratings - 'an expedition' can tow 8900 lbs. So say the ratings. Now read the fine print - 4x4 reduce that 500lbs. 17" wheels, reduce it anohter 500 lbs. Does the third row seat (removable in mine) change that too? Probably. Tow ratings in 01 were based on BASE vehicles.

The assumption here is that these ratings are under what is 'safe' or 'reliable'.
Yeah right...just like MPG ratings, right? Hyundai, Kia sued again over inflated mileage claims - Los Angeles Times

And if you look closely you'll see ratings change (usually up) when there is no change to the truck itself...it's marketing. And salesman never exagerate to make a sale, now do they?

Sorry, salt is bad for your blood pressure, we only serve salt-free.

If you get a permission slip from Dr. Turbs we might make an exception.

I hit teh scales on last week on the way to camping...
New TV, first trip, first time on scales for details

Bottom line - We' almost certainly over GVWR on the sliverado with ONLY PASSENGERS and tongue weight on a 6300lb TT.

Truck GVWR is 7000. Real weight of truck with only 2 kids bikes in the back is 5620 (no driver). Leaving 1380.

Tongue wt should be 10-15% of TT wt...785 lbs on our 6300lb TT.

That leaves 595 lbs for people, pets, cargo....I"m 240, kids are 9 and 12 and add to 125 and the dog is 55lbs. Add in DW and we're over 600lbs...and over the GVWR of the truck.

So I'd say NO - NO 1500/150 truck can take ANY 5th wheel TT.
