Towing with 04 Expedition

Just took delivery of a 2009 SV291. I have a 04 Expedition with a 4.6 engine. This is our first TT. We drove 120 miles to get home and it towed well with no sway. Truck was comfortable at 65mph. Is this little engine gonna be ok for a trip from Ga to NC?

Still getting weights and such figured out.Trailer weighs 4800. Vehicle capacity is 1600 lbs with luggage and people. Truckis rated for 5000 lbs towing. The way i figure it is 5000 plus 1500 equals 6500 lbs I can haul. Yes, no? Also am told that towing weight is understated in the factory specs.

We had a 2001 Expy with the 4.6L and towed a 2601BH which was about the same weight. We towed that thing from FL to PA out through the mountains....to NC, TN and all over. I think we put over 20K miles on the thing with that trailer in tow. Even made the big (well on the east coast) climb on I40 a couple times -- no problem. I actually like that truck for pulling.

We upgraded to a 2006 5.4L Expy only so we could get the bigger 8318SS.
The 5.4L was real nice towing the old 2601SS, but does fine with the 8318SS.

Enjoy it....get camping :-)

I had an 2003 with a 5.4, I think you will be fine as our trailer was heavier, it is always a good idea to get a good weight dist and sway set up, if you havent yet, Gongrats and have fun!!!

Thanks loads guys. I have a Reese sway bar and a Quality S 1000 lbtongue weight distribution hitch. I wiggled the TT on the way home at 50, 60 and 75 mph. Scared the wife to death. I wanted to see if it would recover. It did nicely. I was impressed.
