Towing with a Ram 1500

Will be towing a 25 ft travel trailer with a dry weight of 5000 lbs with a 2014 Ram 1500 with the V6 gas motor and 8 speed transmission. Anyone have real world experience with a similar combo.

Yep. Towing with what is in my sig. Mine is the 4.7 v8 but how much difference could there be. Actually the 2014 v6 is probably better than the 2011 V8. No problems at all, but still trying to get my hitch tweaked. The truck performs and pulls just fine, get around 10 mpg in tow/haul at about 2200 rpms. My dry weight is right at 5000 lbs also.

same as mine
just picked up a 4,200 surveyor cadet in Chicago and drove to KC
pulled great with the tow/haul feature
but, I learned not to use cries control
that really maxed the RPMs and I was concerned with tranny temp
the electric brake controller was a handy feature
love my RAM 1500 !

I'd think that your axle ratio is very key here. The Ram website shows the 2014 V6 has max tow capacity of 4,800 lbs with a 3.21 rear, and 7,300 lbs with the 3.55. If you have the 3.55, you'll probably love the towing ability of your Ram. If you've got the 3.21, my guess is you won't be satisfied.

I have a 2013 Ram Crew Cab, hemi, 6-speed tranny and a 3.92 rear. Max tow capacity is 9,900. I pull a 4,500 lb empty weight trailer, and have absolutely no problems. Average mpg is about 10, cruise control holds speed most of the time; I use tow/haul in hills, otherwise its off (eco mode doesn't kick in if tow/haul is on). Just returned from a 4,000 mile trip from Albuquerque to Yellowstone, to Glacier National Park. The only time I was worried about the tranny temp was going up a 13% grade heading into Cedar Breaks National Monument in Utah (hwy 143) and the temp hit 198 - normally runs around 160.

Glad to hear it. FYI - as a fellow Ram owner - you might enjoy the discussions at "www.ramforumz.com." You'll find me there as "CharlieL".
