Towing with Durango

I am thinking of purchasing Dodge Durango with a 6 cyl. It's rated to tow 6200 lbs. I'd like to hear from anyone who has one, how do you like it?. Also the new trannies have 8 gears, how do you like that?

Your problem will be the Durango's payload capacity.
SUVs are famous for having poor payload capacities, compared to their towing capacities.

Have a 2011 crew with the v8 durango, so have a 7200 lb towing capacity. Was the first year of the current design, we are very happy with it. Don't think i have the 8 speed tranny. We are towing a 3800 lb high wall popup and have no towing issues. And as stated, the payload has to be watched, it is only 1200 lbs. Just be sure that what you are towing is a good fit, i.e. trailer length, tongue weight, and gross trailer weight.

Remember the 6200 lb towing capacity rating assumes you have only a 150lb person driving and nothing else other than a full tank of fuel in the Durango. Every person, animal and cooler you put in the Durango subtracts from that available towing capacity. Having enough or a little more vehicle than you need is safer and gives you piece of mind when towing.
