You can get a very nice truck for a LOT less than $54k...that is SD diesel territory. Oh wait, I see you are in the Great White North...your prices are higher up there.

Not any more. With the Canadian dollar worth more than the US peso, the price of just about everything is dropping fast.
I bought a fairly loaded Dodge quad cab 4x4 for under $30. Awesome truck.

eco boost towing

Thanks to the Hugens for all the info.. you have a beautiful 5er... and sounds like a very nice truck ... I may call your rv dealer tommorrow .. We are liking the rear living room model.. Also i will have to talk to someone at a ford dealer..Did i mention i retired from Ford after 36 years ?? It would be cool to see my new truck being built at the Rouge plant in Dearborn , Mi..Its about 45 miles away from where i live now.

OK here is the balance of last weekends trip. I left off arriving in York, NE.

York NE to Big Springs, NE Flat and easy, 65 MPH got 11.1 MPG
Big Springs, NE to Elk Mountain, Wy Up hill tom 7200' towing at 65 MPH 10.3 MPG
Elk Mountain Wy to Lyman, WY Rain, Snow, HEAD WINDS towing at 65 MPH 8.7 MPG
Lyman to Park City, Utah WIND, Snow, Rain- 65 mph hilly terrain 8.9 MPG
Park City to Wendover, NV - Rain and snow, but lots of down hill (slow, sometimes 45 mph) 9.3 MPG
Wendover to Carlin NV- WINDY WINDY 23 mph HEAD WIND, TOWING 65MPH, 6.7 mpg
Carlin to Winamucca, NV Still windy, but not as bad 65 MPH Tow 7.3 MPG
Winamucca to Sparks, NV winds more crossed than head wind now- 7.7 MPG
Sparks to Tracy, CA Long down hill into Sacramento than flat south to Tracy, tow at 65 mph 10.3 MPG!

Total trip home towing averaged 9.1 MPG

I am very pleased with all of this! Had we encountered better weather with average winds, I would guess that we would have been in the 10+ MPG range.

Thanks for listening and safe towing!

I too was having the same issue.
When you get to the options part, you'll have the 3.5 ECO Boost available for a mere $2000 extra.

Quote from the business section of the local paper referring to May sales:

"For the 1st time in decades, the company (Ford) sold more F-150s with V6 engines (55%) than it did with lager V8s."

I imagine the ecoboost was part of that reason.

I think the statement is a little off, though. If I remember correctly, Ford did not offer a V6 decades ago.......it was an inline 6.....picky, picky, picky.

Your experience shows the dramatic effect that wind has on towing fuel mileage. I'd say that, considering the wind, weight, and travel speed, you did real well.

So, how did the power feel?

I did the Rouge plant tour last summer. Great fun! Plants have come a long way from the "old days". Quieter. Cleaner. I hope you get to see your truck come down the line.

Plenty of power! I have a 2005 F250 Power Stroke for a work truck. I felt as if they handled things similary. The 250 tows the 15k loads like this towed the 8k load. I passed a few 1 tons going up to Donner as well. I am very pleased!

Amazing! When you think about it, the ecoboost is putting out diesel-like torque. 420 ft lbs from 3.5 liters. The big diesels put out about 800 ft lbs but they are 6 to 7 liters in size; double the ecoboost displacement. So, very similar torque output per liter.

You have to stop these posts!!

I'm trying not to buy one of these things!! HA! Ideally I'd like to wait until '13 or '14 when the next major re-design of the F150 should come along. I'm expecting a big reduction in weight; the F150's biggest current problem. Fuel mileage standards will dictate that this will happen. I'd don't think I'll be able to make myself wait that long though. . .

Yeah, they're selling like hot cakes; Ford has something like an 8 day supply and the average time at a dealer is 48 hours. I've driven them and one of my buddies has one.

My advice to all of you out there, if you drive one you will want one; bad. If you are trying to resist, don't drive it. What was the Star Trek line? Resistance is futile. HA!

in a way though you need to be heavy with the truck when pulling. i believe the max tow package makes the truck a bit heavier as is. if your tow truck is too light the trailer will have more control over it!

That's definitely true. I would guess that they will be looking to shed 300 to 400 pounds. That will help gas mileage but not compromise the truck's capabilities. And there is always the Super Duty for those who need "The Stuff"

Thumbs up Ecoboost

I got a new 2014 ecoboost max tow f150. Two weeks ago. This truck is flat out nothing but perfect. I think it would out tow me 05 6.0 powerjoke. For one thing f150 don't live in the shop. Second off. I am sure that my stock ecoboost will out pull my 250 even with the ppe chip on high. I pull my bushhog and my bobcat all the time plus my three axil dump. Witch is over 14000 the other day. Not saying its good to pull 14000 pounds all the time. But this truck still pulls the 14000 pounds with no problem. With the bobcat on it or the bushhog 0-70 in a flash. Will never get a diesel agin. For this truck is perfect. I will repost after July 4 th witch I will pull my 10000 pound camper 800 miles each way. Through the big clime in the nc mountains.

For anyone wanting to know if the ecoboost max tow is good for towing anything
Yes yes yes yes. Stop thinking go get it. You will love it.
2014 f150 ecoboost 4x4 max tow 3.73 gear.
You can order it with 4.10 gear but that would be over kill.

Thanks and sorry for spelling.

Ok I have to say I had an 06 5.4 before I bought the new 13 Ecoboost. I tow a 6,500 TT and the 5.4l just seemed to run out of power on small hills and passing. I certainly would not feel good about taking it in the mountains.
Now the Ecoboost is a complete beast. It never runs out of power on hills and I can run a constant 60-65 without slowing down.
Gas mileage is a bit better towing and way better not towing.
It's a great alternative to a diesel. I'm glad I made the change and now feel confident I could go camping in the mountains if I want. Click image for larger version
