towing with ecoboost

I also have a 2011 screw with the ecoboost and heavy duty tow package, it has right at 34,000 miles on it now. I am towing a 35 foot LaCrosse with a towing weight of about 8500 and tongue weight of 1020. I am 400 pounds from my gross truck weight when fully loaded, the heavy GVW wasn't available in 2011. I have towed the trailer just over 6000 miles so far and am running right on 10 MPG at 60 MPH, mountains haven't affected the mileage as much as strong headwinds. The thing pulls great even in the mountains. The guy I travel with just traded in his 3/4 ton with the big V8 to get a 2013 ecoboost. You are really going to have to go diesel to get better performance. When not towing, at 65 MPH I run right at 22 MPG, in town pretty consistent at 17MPG. My biggest weakness is the downhill braking, the V6 just doesn't have the back pressure to contribute a whole lot to slowing the truck and trailer down. I have learned that when I get to the crest of a mountain to slow it down enough to get it down to about 40 MPH and reset the cruise.

You're probably close or over your trucks GVWR - if your TT is 8000lbs your tongue wt should be about 1000lbs. Have you had your truck weighed? Some here say their F150's have a GVWR of 6700...my 1500 chevy hits the scales at 5600 lbs...you can see that there is very little payload capacity to work with!

With the trailer hooked up fully fueled and both of us in the truck the front axle is at 2940 and the rear is at 3880 for a total of 6820 and I have a 7350 GVWR. The tongue weight is 1020 pounds. I get an inch and a half deflection on the towbar when the trailer is hokked up with the load leveler on the hitch. The trailer weighed in at 7860. This was at a CAT scale at a local truck stop. The trailer and truck combo weigh in at 14680 and the GCWR is 16900. Truck performs superbly even in the mountains. On a 6% grade I can stop and accelerate back up to 55 without a problem.

My Truck cost me 33k last June ..Its a 2012 Super Duty ..Had 3,300 miles on it a Ford Motor Company executive vehicle that only the dealers are allowed to bid on once a month in dearborn ,Mi... I LOVE THE TRUCK !!! oh...and even on a 35 mph windy day at least 13 mpg and flat towing non windy conditions...17 mpg towing

I have a 2012 F150 Ecobeast with max tow and pull a Puma 31DBTS with it. Trailer weight loaded for us is 9860lbs with a tongue weight of 1035lbs. I've pulled it in windy conditions with no issues. Our WD hitch is a 12k Equal-iz-er.

We pull a 5th wheel, 7300 lbs dry, with our F-150 Eco-boost. When towing, we get from 10 to 12 mpg on average (the best we've ever done was 13.5 for one day with a tail wind). I tend to drive on the slower side, around 60 usually. Around town we get 18-19.

The ride is fine, though it does get a little more exciting with strong cross winds!

Last summer we visited the Canadian Rockies. Had plenty of power to pull the trailer over the hills. This summer we're going to Colorado. I'm not going to seek out the 10% grades, but with that said, I'm not anticipating any problems.

We just returned from a long tow with our MaxTow EcoBeast. We went North out of Chicago thru Wisconsin and then east across the UP of Michigan to the Sault Ste. Marie area. Just shy of 1200 miles round trip. Calm conditions going up 17-20mph cross winds with gusts up to 39mph all the way back. Towed fine both ways.
Trailer loaded for 9 days, 2 adults and 4 kids in the truck.

Just got back from a trip to Orlando from Louisville, and back averaged 6.7 on the way down. :-(, took it easier on the way back and got 7.6, 7.2 mpg over the entire 1800 mile trip. Max tow Eco super crew 6.5 towing a salem 27dbud. You reap what you sow on how fast you go. :-). Very enjoyable tow, the truck did real well.
