New to forums and would like to know who is towing with a tacoma and what they are towing?

I am. I have a 12 Taco Sport short bed with tow package, WDH, sway-control and Firestone airbags set at 25 lbs. I pull a 12 Mini-Lite 2104. Pulls/tows fine but on the hills, it really needs more power. I keep the speed at about 57 MPH.

Hello rusty21, welcome to the forum. I also tow with a Tacoma. I have a 2009 4x4 double cab with the factory tow package. The trailer I tow is the 2013 Wildwood X-Lite 195bh and I use a weight distributing hitch with sway control. The truck does fine on most roads and moderate hills but like licken66 said, "on the hills, it really needs more power".

I just returned from a 550 mile round trip camping weekend in Northeast Vermont and there were a few times on the mountain hills when I needed to use my four-way flashers as my speed dropped to 50 miles an hour.

I had a 2007 Pre Runner long bed double cab, TRD Sport & tow package. I towed a Jayco 213, about 23' and weighing in at 4800#. All was fine unless I went into the mountains. I could drive at 55 mph uphill, but my foot was to the floor and the transmission was in 3rd gear, engine revving between 3500 & 4000 RPM. I had an Equal-I-zer hitch that worked well after properly setting it up.
It drove fine on a level highway.

this thread might prove helpful to you. You can tow with a taco but you need to understand your capabilities so you don't end up having to upgrade your TV after buying a TT. it tells you in this thread how to figure it out.

thanks everyone for the remarks. I am towing with a 2010 taco v6 4x4 with a towing pkg with an equal-I zer hitch and am having the same issues as everyone else. The tv does well till you get into the hills here in ssouthwest mo. No long trips yet but a lot of short ones. Just really wanted to know what to expect as this is our first camper. It is a 21ft flagstaff weighing in at about 4700 loaded. Have been on a trip with no internet so its taken a while to get back to the forums.

the problem is that these v-6 engines, other than the Ecoboost, will show their weakness when pulling a full-height trailer through mountains and hills.

you really need a v-8 to overcome the wind resistance and the weight, when climbing.

this is very true, but as of now I cant afford a new truck so I have to just slow down and smell the roses as i slowly roll along.
