Toyota Tacoma & Rockwood Roo Model 19

I've got a Tacoma coming in a few weeks. 4.0L V6, Double-Cab, Long Bed 140.9" Wheelbase with tow package. Truck is rated at 6,500 lbs, but I'd never consider going that high even when I owned a Dodge Ram 1500 Crew Cab!

Anyway, wife and I are considering a Rockwood Roo Model 19 for our needs and the occasional extra couple.

I'd like feedback on the Tacoma as a tow vehicle for this trailer and any comments from Model 19 owners out there about their experience with this particular unit.

Much appreciated!

The Toyo will pull fine. We had an 03 and it pulled our 2502s just fine. There is a big difference between a domestic 1/2 ton and a Toyota...the Toyo pulls much better!

We have the Nissan Frontier with the 4.0L too. I'm not sure what your camper weighs, but our weighs loaded just over 3500lbs. Pulling it isn't a problem, but the best fuel milage we've gotten is just over 13 mpg.

Good luck.

We pull a Palomino Gazelle 230 which weighs very close to 4500lbs loaded and the Tacoma does well except on significant grades. Our Tacoma is a 2009 with the 4.0 v6, double cab, long wheelbase. The v6 is a great engine, but it does let you know when your pulling a long steep grade; but overall, we've been very pleased with its towing ability. At 4500lbs it might be near max capacity, but it seems to handle both the pulling and weight well. You will find that on some hills you'll be in that right lane.

My Tacoma pulls my Salem 22RBXL (around 4000 lbs loaded) like a champ. MPG is about 10, 12 at best, but the truck doesn't seem to be taxed that much at all.

I never exceed 65 MPH and that helps stability, some MPG, and the fact that most trailer tires aren't rated faster than that speed.
