Trailer tow packages

Hello!
My wife and I just ordered a new Puma travel trailer and are very excited!
I am now looking for a load leveling/ anti sway system for my trucks and travel trailer and a brake controller.
Here is a little info.
The Puma is 30' plus tongue. Tongue weight is 1183 lbs. the trailer dry is 8830 lbs and up to 11800 when loaded etc.
I Have never owned a travel trailer and need some advise on what to buy. The Dealer says the Equalizer is the best, it doesn't have chains, but then I have read Reese is the way to go but it has chains.
Please someone give me some honest advise.
Thanks!!!!

I use the Equalizer E2 and have been pleased with its performance. I don't think you will be disappointed if you go with the E2. There are other good
products by other companies out there as well. I also use an integrated Ford factory brake controller. What type of TV do you have?

Stu,
I would recommend the 4-point Equal-I-zer. The e2 is good, but the original has better sway control and a trailer your size should use it.

The Reese Dual Cam will do the same job. Many happy campers tow with both.

What is your truck? With a dry weight of 8800lbs, your loaded weight will be closer to 10,000 plus lbs and I'd venture your tongue weight will be 1,300 or so.

The best WDH options are the Propride and Hensley.

For a break controller, if you don't have one built in as GASPEDDLER brought up, the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller seems to be the most recommended. I just got one my self and I haven't had a chance to try it out. I got mine used from a member on this forum. You could watch the classified thread on here, check ebay or eTrailer has them...

Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller - Proportional Tekonsha Brake Controller 90885

Welcome to the forum...

My tongue weight is almost identical to yours. I have 14k equalizer, works great, no issues at all.

Look just above the driver side chain, it's hard to make out with all the dried weeds in the background. Wouldn't leave home without it.

I have used both the Equalizer (4-way control) and the Reese Straight Line. Both are very good systems and in my opinion perform equally as well. I prefer the Equalizer simply because I found it to be quieter and easier to setup.

I don't know which Equalizer hitch the dealer is prepared to sell you, but you will not be disappointed with the original 4-way control Equalizer. I have no experience with the new E2 system.

Happy Camping!

We use the E2 on our ETC mini lite and it works well with lighter TT. Make sure you lubricate the bar ends at the head. Also check brackets are tight on TT frame or bracket will walk down the frame. Ensure the
L brackets are tight as well. All done with 3/4" socket and simple check when you use E2. It is great WDH but I would use the 4pt on TT above 4k. Best of luck

see post #2. i had the same hitch, and it was the best money i ever spent. the creaking and groaning you hear will be normal as it is metal on metal, but it handled my 31 ft copper canyon just fine. plus, you can back up with it without unhooking sway control.

I use the Equalizer (4-way control) and it works great on my 31 foot toy hauler. I definitely recommend it. Shop the internet for the best prices which ever way you decide to go.

I got the same. Tows great. No sway and great weight transfer.
