It's comes from the fluid, enhanced cooling and better materials in the trans itself. They work better and more efficient thus aren't as hard on fluid.

Spoke too soon. A couple of pages later in the manual there was another table with "severe" written in bold. This table recommends having the tranny fluid changed at 45,000 miles and it was the earlier table entitled "normal" that said 97,500 miles. Still think I should be ok for awhile? I'm thinking I may hold off this year, see how the fluid holds up, and possibly get the flush done next spring. I don't think I qualify as "severe" although I'm not 100% sure what they mean by severe exactly..

Just read what severe means..I tow occasionally not frequently and live on relatively flat land.. I should be ok. My truck was used as a fleet vehicle before I bought it, so I get a knock against me there I'm sure, but otherwise I would say I'm within "normal" limits there.

Severe is inner city use, loaded down more than 50% of the time. From what you say I wouldn't call you severe.

Split the difference, get it changed next year or 75,000 miles.

I change my trans fluid every 15000 and do it myself. Only cost around $50. I never believe the manuals especially since I tow. Changing fluids is cheap insurance.

Yeah, it's settled. I'm going to get a full flush/fluid replacement when I get the aftermarket tranny coolet installed on Wednesday. I guess if I'm already torn it's best to stay conservative and be on the side of caution. This way I can start anew with the transmission cooler and not having it hang over my head. Needs to get done sooner or later anyway.

Thanks for the advice!
