Trouble un hitching 2 for 2

Hey everybody. I am new to the TT world as of a few days ago. Both times I have went to uncouple I have had trouble separating the TV ball from TT tounge. I'm using a weight distribution hitch. When I go to jack the tounge off the ball(with the tounge latch open) the tounge jack starts to lift the the TV. I had to have my brother stand on the TV hitch while I jack up the tounge of TT. Ball suddenly,aggressively drops out of tounge. What am I doing wrong/what should I be doing?? (All spring bars and components of wdh removed prior to trying this)

One possibility...When the tongue latch is open it also has to be pulled back to allow the ball to release.

Sometimes if you pull forward just an inch or so it will stop the truck from pushing back on the lever in the hitch.

When I open the tongue latch, I usually hop in the truck, put it in neutral, take my foot off the brake from just a split second, then put it back in park. That usually allows the hardware to relieve built up stress, and the disconnecting process is a lot easier from there.

Thanks guys. I was thinking that was my issue. Truck position. Hopefully that helps.

What everyone else said plus make sure when you uncouple that the weight of trailer is firmly on the truck. I made that mistake in the beginning and had the same problem you are having.

A little grease on the hitch ball and coupler may help out also.

Agreed - a little grease goes a long way to eliminating the "sticking" issue.

Yep, as outlined by another above putting the TV in neutral and foot off the brake usually takes off tension that is there while unhitching. Put back in park with parking brake applied and it should release. Even with fresh grease it will sometimes stay in a bind till you release it.

Another "better do first" is chock your TT wheels so if the binding hitch is being caused by the TT looking for level ground, you won't be casing it across the lot.

Sometimes it just sticks a little. After relieving the tension as noted above, it may still raise the back of the truck a bit but it'll let go. Jump on the bumper a couple times if needed.
