Truck Cap

Anyone have any experience running with and without a bed cap with a TT,did it help with fuel economy? Just sold 30í 5th wheel and got a Rockwood 2506s mini-lite itís 3000# lighter but seems like my mileage has gone down some. I know the frontal area is fairly flat.

A cap on a truck bed won't make enough difference in fuel economy to buy a 6 pack with the savings IMHO But does keep your stuff out of the elements

Pulling a TT and a truck cap are essential, it keeps your stuff from being stolen, dry, clean and from flying out in the 65 mph wind. A truck bed is handy for all the stuff that wont fit in a TT like a generator, BBQ, extra propane and folding chairs.
Does it help with mpg? Improved aerodynamics (if any) is offset by the additional 300lbs the cap weighs.

x2!
Get a cap if you want to protect and secure things in the bed. But don't buy one because you hope it will help with fuel mileage.

It also goes without saying if you plan to upgrade to a 5th wheel someday, don't buy a cap.

Spending the cash on a cap to get an extra 1/4 mile to the gallon makes about as much sense as spending 50k on a new truck to get an extra 1-2 miles per gallon. if worried about MPG sell the camper and get a new hobby.
