truck height

Hello all, I could use some insight and information please. I am interested in a sierra select 32qbbs fifth wheel, does anyone know how tall it is from the ground to the camper body at the pin box? the '07 ram 2500 is approximately 57" from ground to top of the bed and i'm worried there would not be the minimum 6" clearance from bed to camper. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you

I have a 2015 RAM 2500 and a 2015 Heritage Glen 327RES and it is impossible to level the unit when towing because of the height of the truck. RAM has literally put themselves out of the fifth wheel market by making their trucks so high. I had a 2010 F250 before and did not have this problem The only way you can be sure is to hook it up and see.

Are you sure it is just Ram? I have read this complaint on the new Ford and Chevy/GMC pick-up bodies also.

truck height

My 4x4 '12 Ram does just fine with my '13 Sabre. They're level and I have 6" of clearance.

Maybe the newer ones are even higher. But, thinking about it- the Sabre has big 16" wheels and sits quite always off of the ground. I'd actually like to swap my steps for a set of 4-steps vs. the 3 that is currently on it.

Yes, I think all the manufacturers are making the trucks higher. The best option is to stay clear of the 4x4s. Unfortunately nearly all the trucks on the lots are 4x4s because of the increased profit margin. If you want a 4x2 set up for towing it almost always has to be special ordered. My bad for purchasing a 4x4 off the lot instead of ordering a 4x2.

I think my situation is a combination of the Heritage Glen being a little lower to give more head room in the bedroom and the truck being a little higher that previous years to meet current trends. I contacted Forest River about options to raise the unit and their reply was to go to my local outfitter. In other words, no help from Forest River. It would be nice if they sold a kit to raise the unit a couple of inches. All that is needed is the proper size steel blocks and some longer U Bolts. I will probably do this myself after the factory warranty expires. For now, I'm stuck pulling it nose high.

You could always put drop shackles on the rear of your pickup to bring it down a little ways.

The nose high puts a lot of stress on the rear axle. Can you flip axles? I know I have a lift kit on my Dexter Torsion Bars.

It's not really an option to lower the truck because it has coil springs all the way around. The axles of the 5th wheel are already under the springs so a flip is not an option. Putting a block between the axle and springs is definitely the way to go after the warranty expires. The trailer has the flex suspension so theoretically there's equal weight on the front and rear tires. This thread on rv.net shows how to do the block lift.

the sierra select has 16" wheels on it already, but the one spec I cant find is ground to under body of camper at the fifth wheel. I know the truck will squat a little but I just don't want to run into problems. Living here in the northeast a 4x2 is not an option especially since we had about 6 feet of snow this past winter...

Your 2007 2500 has rear coil springs? Not calling you a liar, but can you post up a picture? I have never seen factory coil springs on the rear of any 3/4 ton pickup.

The 2015 3/4 ton Rams indeed do have rear coil springs. The 3500s have leaf springs.

When you go to the dealer to look at fifth wheels, take a tape measure with you and measure the height of the nose above ground. With the trailer level, it should be at least 6 inches higher than the height of your truck bed sides. Your truck will squat when loaded, so this will not be exact but it will get you in the ball park.

Lower the truck....I did mine, very easy and cheap to do and the ride DIDN'T change. Lifting trailer.....easier on some, but wind could have negative effects, need to carry thicker blocks for under stabilizers, steps become uncomfortable to use, looks like crap, have to re-do hitch set-up.......besides, all that gap between the trucks tires and wheel well openings isn't necessary.... unless you rock climb with the truck.

I'd never drop the TV.

Find a spring shop in your area and ask what it would cost to revamp the suspension on the trailer enough to level it out.
