Truck Mod - Tailgate Assist

After watching videos on the Deezee Tailgate Assist, it looks pretty slick for helping to control the speed that the tailgate lowers. My 9 year old likes to help open the tailgate and I'm always a little concerned she's going to let it slip and bust her head up.

Tailgate assist has been ordered from AutoAnything (they price match!). Hope to install it this coming weekend and will report back!

I installed this on Saturday while my daughter was fishing with my dad, his wife and my sister (no PA license for me- too expensive for a non-resident!). It's exactly what I hoped for.

I got home today and had my wife open the tailgate and got an "oh, this is nice" out of her.

I went and picked up the camper tonight and it was really nice to grab the tailgate and just let it drop.

For $35 or so- highly recommend! In fact, I don't know why manufacturers don't consider this as a factory option. It's that good.

They are awesome but they do come from the factory. I'm not sure exactly what it looks like but my tundra and my old Titan both had a gas strut mounted by the tail light. I have forgot on my work truck which is a Chevy and I will just grab it and it will slam down.

The struts are also available at orielys ...I put one on my tailgate, and it didnt slam down, but I wanted it slower, so I put one on both sides.....trucks should come that way from the factory! ....they really do make a huge difference!

Just make sure that she is well aware that all tailgates don't have it & try to help someone & get a nice bump...... Sounds like a great idea I have always had older trucks & did not know that was available.................

There is an option from Ford for the SuperDuty's tailgate assist.

My F250 has it. Its only noticeable when closing the gate. Its spring loaded and assists with the weight of the tail gate.

Factory standard on the tundra. Doesn't drop and easy to close.

Two different things entirely-

Our 2012 Ram came with the torsion thing that helps with the weight of it. This Tailgate assist means I can literally open the tailgate and let go. It's wonderful for hitching and unhitching; especially if I'm in a hurry. Just grab, drop and move on while it lowers itself.

Yes, thats how mine is now as well...open it and it takes 2-3 seconds to 'fall open'....no slam at all...and seems no harder to close than before...
