I'm praying there is some exaggeration on the 30-45 minutes...

Knowing and understanding how diesels work, it is wise to allow them to idle for a short while, depending on ambient temperature, prior to moving them. It is even more important to allow them to warm up prior to putting them to use to try and avoid blowing a head gasket or anything of the nature.

It goes this way for everything at the campgrounds though, people shouldn't be making excessive noise late at night or early in the morning. People should just overall be more courteous to the other campers in the area in general. Not just the vehicles but anything and everything else...

No exaggeration for the most part, I understand the diesels on warm up and shutting down the turbos after a hard pull. Otherwise, I'm with you on being more courteous. I think the problem is that some folks just don't think about others and are in their own little world.

Truly a sad world we live in for sure!

Thank God for things such as camping to relieve some of that pain!

Not sure how you'd know on an 06 unless it was still chipped. And, though true that a chip can improve the longevity, the vast majority of chipped diesels (in my area, at least) are driven by young guys and they are DOGGED on ALL the time. No way I'd buy a chipped diesel unless buying from an individual and I knew them well. I'd also steer clear if any intake or exhaust mods had been done. Typically that means it's been chipped, and, once again, driven like it's a race car.

They should have saved themselves the agony of defeat and just bought a dodge with the Cummins. Save some time and money rather doing a swap. Lol.

If you get the truck, replace the ball joints! Dodge trucks have terrible ball joint. Knowing a vehicle accident reconstruction specialist, 50% of the vehicles they deal with are Chrysler, and of that 1/2 are Dodge Truck ball joint failures. Now, not all the of failures are really due to the ball joints being bad, just the weak link.

I bought an 05 5.9 Dodge Duelly two years ago this coming summer. No regrets...... Now has 68K plan on keeping it a long while. I would go for it if there are no issues.................

I know several guys like you and they can't understand why I don't turn mine up and let her bellow lol that smoke is dollar bills flowing out that pipe.

to the op I have a tuner on mine not a chip or programmer a tuner. I can switch tunes on the fly with a digital control. I have intake and exhaust and I changed the factory turbo intake wheel to quiet the whine and bring boost in lower and faster on the hills w/o producing higher egt's. high egt's are the killer of the diesel's and is why I have gauges. don't think for one second that a factory truck can't hit high egt's, I hear soooo many say it defuels to save itself. I told a buddy with an 06 duramax to add the gauges and tell me that, he was shocked at what he found. so all those mods are good if they were done for the right purpose and to find one with all that is money ahead but if all the owner did was beat it w/o concern of what it was doing to the engine then you don't want it. a good friend of mine bought a 2011 dodge 3500 dually w/o mods and it was clean. on his way to the sand dunes in Idaho with his toy haulers it was just running way high on egt's. he took it in while he was there to a dodge diesel shop just to find out it had been run damn hard and hot. the engine was cooked but with out pulling heavy he couldn't tell. he had the engine re-built while he camped and he couldn't believe the power diff and lower egt's. he also had some additional mods done at that time like ex intake etc etc. best thing to do no matter what is have it checked out by a good diesel mechanic that loves and knows that brand! if the owner wants to sell it they won't have a problem with that!

I saw a post on here about the 5.4 lte gasser.......I have been a ford lover my whole life but that whole deal with the plugs and exhaust manifold and cats is no good! I test drove one once in a 1/2 ton model for daily driving and it was gutless with only 40k miles on it. 6 speed manual and a joke.....I would by a chevy with the 5.3 or 6.0 gas long before a ford and I hate to admit that one lol

I have 4 friends with the newer duramax's and they are real quiet. I have to say the cummins motor is probably one of the most efficient inline 6 diesels out there it's just the rest of the truck or everything that surrounds the engine I don't like. lol

I love my new Duramax. I have nothing against Cummins, but unfortunately it's a 300,000 mile engine in a 100,000 mile truck.

My neighbor has a 2005 2500 with the Cummins and has over 180,000 miles on it. The engine he has had no problems with, he has already replaced the transmission at 100,000 and various other parts even before that such as ball joints, pinion gears and u-joints. He is very meticulous when it comes to maintenance.

He has a KZ 5th wheel and it has tons of power, as others have mentioned it's the other things that go around the motor. But, in some cases, it is expected as mileage gets up there too.

Diesel or gas, like others have said, depends what your towing. I'm a ford man, but I will say that the big 3 all make great trucks. That said, they all have their problems. My opinion on this post is, if you tow alot and heavy, go with the dodge. If using mostly as daily commuter and tow occasionally, the ford. Way better ride and better creature comforts. The dodge engine will last longer if planning to keep it awhile, with regular maintenance. But you will have to deal with rust a lot more down the road with the dodge. I drive an 05 f150 4x4 5.4 3v with 215,000 miles and no issues. I tow a coachman 292bhds, 7100 loaded with no problem. Like I said, regular maintenance, all trucks today are very good.

to the op if it's between the dodge diesel and the f150 the f150 loses. you will pre the dodge diesel over the f150 but like said earlier the diesel is more expensive to maintain vs the 1/2 ton gasser but pulling power no contest.

lots of people want to point out that diesels cost more to buy and maintain, and it's true, but I think the saying "you get what you pay for" comes into play here.

Go to other forums and see what most hot shot drivers use. Ask the people on this forum who had to return their camper to the factory what the guys who pick up their units were driving. Just saying!!!

I get really tired of the comments of its a great engine in a bad truck. I don't understand where you people get your info. I have 125000 on my truck and the only thing that i had to replace because it was bad where my front axle joints but I also put a lot of strain on them left done at 70 k right at 120k. I did replace the ball joints while doing each side but not due to them being bad. Just because i had everything torn apart and the ball joints didn't cost much. My dad has a 06 and 1997 and has only done his once in 200k miles. I do safety inspections in the state of VA and have seen just as many bad ball joints on fords if not more and older chevys have had many a bad ball joint and now that they have that problem fixed they constantly fail for front wheel bearings. The transmission in the truck is fine as well as long as you don't add extra horsepower, Never had a problem with mine. Check out the million mile club these people don't take their motor out and put it in another truck they are the original trucks as well as engines. All 3 trucks can be good trucks if properly maintained and bad trucks if not. As long as the 05 has been maintained and not chipped it will be a very good truck for you.
