TST TPMS
Purchased the TST 507 TPMS with standard sensors the installation and setup was easy and smooth and sensors appear to be very accurate. TST and others say these can be run on rubber valve stems without issues. But when I look at those sensors on the end of the rubber valve stems it makes me more nervous to tow than when I was towing without them. I know there will be a lot of advice to go with a metal stem but I would like to hear from those that are towing with rubber stems and obtain your feedback as to your experiences in regards to rubber stem issues. Such as how long have you been running on rubber stems (distance) and if you have had any stem failures. I truly believe in the benefit of the system but man it makes me nervous looking at the knob on the end of that rubber stem. I will eventually go to metal stems but in the mean time what is the advice.

I've had the TST 507 on my Rockwood since 2011 and have about 15,000 km on it. I added clear silicone between the gap of the rubber stem and aluminum rim to minimize rotary flexing and in 5 seasons had no issues.

That's the first thing everyone should buy is a TPMS. It buys piece of mind. 507 TST is the one I have used for 4 years, ones for rubber stems. I have metal stems on camper tires now and the flow-thur makes it easy to put air in tires but I still have the ones for rubber stems. They work so good and I hate to spend more money for the ones for the metal stems. I have more than 10,000 miles on mine and no problems. I live in NC and we have been to Yellowstone. I thought the same thing you do about the stems but don't worry they will be fine. It is a great feeling to look at the monitor and see all is ok, the second thing you should buy is a Progressive Industry surge suppressor. Those two items will make camping so much more fun.

Used the regular 507 for 2 yrs and approx. 25,000 miles on rubber stems. Put the 507 Flow thru on new rubber stems and got about 1500 miles before one started leaking. Now have all steel stems. No worries.

According to TST website, they only require metal valve stems when using commercial sensors. Jerry

I'd like to add what I know and what we experienced. We had rubber valve stems and added the TST. After about 300 miles, the alarm sounded. We pulled over and had a slow leak from the rubber valve stem. BUT the tire was almost 3 years old and the stem and hardened and cracked some from constantly being outside and in use. We had metal valve stems put in the next day.
I was told that if a tire is 3 years old or older or if you carry more than 80 pounds of air in your tires, you really should consider changing to metal valve stems. IF your tires are not that old, the stems are still supple & you carry less than 80 pounds of air, you should probably be OK. Just my 2 cents. Hugs, Di

I just installed the TST 507 Flow thru set on our 2014 Silverback 33RL last week...just returned a few hours ago from a 600 mile trip and did not have time to get metal stems put on before leaving, so I simply put them on the rubber valve stems...I know it's just one trip but everything went great with the system...I had the tire's air pressure at 80 psi when we left....6 hours constant driving one way...95 degree day...bright sunshine....psi never got over 89-90 and temperature never exceeded 106-107...on the return trip today.....temperature when we arrived home was 98 degrees and the readings were the same as the trip going....89-90 psi highs and 106-107 high temps.....proud I've put them on and I'm sure I will eventually change over to metal stem.

We have a TST as well. You can get metal sleeves that will slide over the rubber stem. The bottom of the sleeve fits in the gap of the wheel and the rubber stems won't flex. 6k miles of towing and all is well.

My flow through sensors leaked on rubber stems. They did not leak when I tried them on my truck tires that had metal stems. When I called customer service about the problem they stated that they were not recommended for rubber stems. How ever they stated I could file down the brass sensor to get a better seal on the rubber stem. Needless to say I did not file down the sensors and was afraid to mount them until I can get metal stems.

Yes, you need to - even at a CG if you are there for a few days - if left on the valve stems, it runs the battery down.

Only if you want to extend battery life. Suppose to last 10-12 months. I leave mine in for the 3+ months while in FL and take them off when we get home in late Feb/early Mar. I just put them in a couple of weeks ago and will probably leave them in now until we get back from FL. Batteries are cheap and easy to replace.
From TST website:
How long do the sensor batteries last?
On average the 510 sensor batteries last between 5 and 7 years and the 507 batteries are intended to be changed approximately every 10-12 months. The sensors stop transmitting after being disconnected from the tires. If you park your commercial vehicle for extended periods of time or if you store an RV for the winter, you can remove the sensors and extend battery life. The included battery life estimate is based upon full time use.
