Tundra rocks!
Don't forget about this:
"Los Angeles is no stranger to gridlock. But it's not often the thing stopping traffic is from space.
We've been following the journeys of the retired space shuttles to their new homes (especially Enterprise, which now resides near the PopMech office in New York). This weekend the Endeavour made a 12-mile trek through the streets of Los Angeles, embarking from Los Angeles International Airport on Thursday and arriving at its retirement home at the California Science Center on Sunday.
In its three-day trip trip through LA, Endeavor hit blistering speeds of up to 2 mph, snaking its way between trees, homes, and traffic signals. And at one point, because of weight restrictions, a 4X4 Toyota Tundra pulled the 170,000-pound shuttle across the Manchester Boulevard Bridge. Not too shabby for a 381-hp, 5.7-liter V-8, given that the entire shuttle rig, including custom-made dolly, weighed just north of 300,000 pounds."
It pulls my Surveyor great!!!

I know this is going to ruffle feathers so apologies ahead of time. I have also seen a man pull a locomotive with his teeth.

We had one and, yes, they pull great but with a payload of less than 1,400 lbs. ours had to go when we decided to buy a 5th wheel. You would have to have a pin weight near nothing to keep from exceeding that kind of payload.

that Tundra commercial MIGHT have been believable if the unit the shuttle was loaded on hadn't been a SELF-PROPELLED unit!

If handling, safety and control are of no concern it would be a really nice setup to drive.

While it's true that the unit was self propelled in order to reduce the weight of the shuttle to safe levels when it crossed the overpass the propulsion units had to be removed.
The Tundra has the grunt to pull a lot of weight but it suffers from low payload capacity and does not make a good 5'ver tower with out mods.

Dang it... You got me.
What mods increase payload capacity?

Since I've been old enough to watch TV, I'm a big spectator of the World's Strongest Man Competitions...those 350-425lb monster men pull 17K lb semi rigs about 25 yards for a sport...I guess most trucks should be able to "pull" a lot of weight!

On a dead-flat, level surfaces at low speeds, weight means very little. Its rolling resisitance. Pavement is hard enough to factor out compression loading, and with what looks like about 190 high-pressure tires, just about anything could pull it along at two MPH.
Every time I see that commercial I laugh at how "challenging" Toyota makes it out to be. Not taking anything away from the tundra, but I dont think I'd buy one simply because its shuttle carrying ability.

Apparently they arr great with Space Shuttles - but have trouble with smaller trailers:

Looks like the picture verifies that he didn't consult the weight police on this forum, otherwise, he would have removed all the lumber on the sides of the trailer and cut the angle iron off and just towed the tongue and axles, sans license plate.

I camped next to this guy with a F150. I have to wonder how poor his mileage is.
