Tundra recall

I found out tonight that there is a (silent?) recall on 2000-2003 Tundras for "excessive frame rusting."

You have until April 2012 to contact your dealer to have your frame inspected. If your frame meets the definition used in the recall for "excessive rust," Toyota will replace the frame on your truck at no cost to you. There is a caveat that any work required, not related to the frame will be billed, however. (Not sure what that means)

I also believe a rental in included in the frame replacement if approved.

I received a letter from Toyota on my 2002 Tundra 4x4 last month and called local dealership. They didnt seem to knowledgeable about this recall. My truck was from Vancouver, B.C. so almost rust free with only 98K. Should be interesting how many Tundras will get the frame replacement.

I know 3 guys that have had this year and model. The dealers have been very good with these repairs. 2 of the guys had the frames replaced and one was offered money toward a new truck.

Just imagine if the frame recall matched up the alleged accelerator problem my 2008 had...a perfect storm in the making. Your truck suddenly accelerates to light speed and then as you pass warp speed the frame breaks apart. Good thing they caught this.

Update: my 2002 Tundra was inspected by Toyota and had minimal rust as it came from Vancouver BC and very low milage (98000km). Toyota did undercoat the truck for free.
